Zinnia's from seed - how long till they can be cut?
Comments (3)As you say, there are no hard and fast rules, but early June will be pushing it. My last frost date is April 15. Planting zinnias out any earlier than that would very likely be disastrous. Not only do you need to be frost free, but you need reasonably warm soil for them to thrive too. Typically, with my 4/15 plant date, zinnias are at their very best by the first week of July. You might have some cuttable ones by mid June if you plant enough of them. For the large flowered zinnias, I don't think there is any advantage to starting them inside early. The ones planted in good, well prepared, fertile ground will grow so fast that they quickly catch up to, and even pass the ones that were in pots....See MoreHow to get long stems for cutting?
Comments (5)Thanks guys! Lizalily and Paveggie, to answer your questions - I wintersow, so all my seeds were planted outside in containers starting in January, and sown through March., and were outside from the get-go. Due to a prolonged sickness, there was a delay in actually getting the seedlings planted out into their beds, but they were outside in containers before being planted out. My cutting beds have very good soil. I have four raised cinder-block beds with a compost/manure/soil mix, a few smaller raised beds, and two lasagna beds which were made with lots of organic materials. The soil in all of them is loose and well-draining. Paveggie, you may have hit the nail on the head. We had a very wet, cool spring, then some long stretches of very hot, humid, dry weather. I thought at first that that was the reason I was getting zinnia's in bloom at six inches tall, and that just may be it. It just seems like I had the same problem last year. I see these bouquets in the stores and the stems are all so long. My bouquets are only about ten inches high. So I guess that's just the way it is - at least for this year. So my next question is, will these plants - or the individual stems, I should say - eventually grow taller? Or am I stuck with 10-inch boquets again, lol? Thanks for responding! :) Dee...See MoreLong Shot: Who knows how to track down reproduction or vintage tile?
Comments (20)Gennifer, they are located in a bar in Eden, Idaho. We are remodeling the bar and if we don't sell them they will be just going into storage. That is not a place that they should be. They should be displayed and we know they would be in a good place if you were to want them. In 2004 they were appraised at $25k. The value is now probably closer to the $30k area for all of them but we would consider anything within like the $20k area for all of it. If you are only wanting or considering just a panel or so we could discuss that as well. We don't want to sell any of it by the piece cause it is put on panels. There are 4 panels when I originally thought there was 3. We just really want it to go to someplace that will use it like it should be and display the beauty of this tile....See MoreBrand New ShotCrete Pool Shell Shot in the rain, How should I proceed?
Comments (3)The structure is most definitely compromised. A slight mist of rain is ok and somewhat helpful in keeping the material moist and can aid in curing. A rain storm though, will change the ratio of cement to water and not provide a sound structure. If you have what you described, this pool should be removed and be started over again. I can see from the photos it's not good. Find a structural engineer in your area and pay for a consultation and a site visit. An engineer experienced with pool construction is highly recommended....See Moreflora_uk
