How to support malabar spinach

I just bought my first plant and was taken aback with the "robust-ness" of the vines. They're huge and heavy, this is no sissy vine. I have no idea how to support these giant heavy stalks. I need some advice on how you successful spinach growers do it. Also, there are only two branches of vines coming out of the pot, should I do something to the plant to encourage more branching? Where I bought the plant at ECHO they had them growing on the ground, making a nice groundcover. But as a food crop I think I'd rather grow them up a trellis. Thanks so much.
