A few days of blooms...(lots of pics)

Just can't manage to keep up with everything! I have been trying to follow the posts and admire all of the beautiful things that people have blooming right now, as well as keeping up with admiring my own. I love this time of the season, but you can never stay on top of everything!

Here are some of the beauties that have made me smile in my garden over the last several days........

My first Paul Owen seedling came out for me last night

FLASHER was a WOW for me on FFO

GOLD KISSED was a bonus from Maryott's last fall. I love the substance and the color, but much shorter and smaller than I had expected. Hope it gets better (bigger) as it settles in.

LATIN RHYTHM was another Maryott's bonus a few years ago. I love this one, even though it's first several blooms never open well for me.

NEBULOUS NEARNESS

OUTRAGEOUS again. LOVE LOVE LOVE this one! Top 5 for sure!

STARMANS QUEST

SWEET SUMMER HEAT

LARRY GRACE second year and I am soooo in love with it!

LONGFIELDS TWINS has a totally funky form, but the blooms are huge and I really like it.

PAINTED LADY AND CAROLICOLOSSAL

SHADY LADY is just glorious.

WIND FRILLS will end my pictures. It is just huge and colorful, and finally coming into it's own in my garden.

Julie- My Paul Owen seedlings have been blooming away for a long time and yours just started now. It looks like a nice one. CHOCTAW BRAVE is a lovely b-color and thats a great picture of the twins :-))

That hot bed of yours with OUTRAGEOUS and the roses and lilies is so beautiful, I just love it. Then in the picture of PAINTED LADY AND CAROLICOLOSSAL, I just love the way you have matched the colors of the orange and yellow bi-tone with the big yellow spider. They look so good together.

Very nice batch of daylilies here.

Julie. You really have some pretty ones. My favorites are CHOCTAW BRAVE and LARRY GRACE..Very nice photo's.

Sorry it has taken me a while to get back and check in. I was out of town for work and just got home. Thanks so much everyone for the compliments. It makes me feel good, I must admit. I always seem to see what needs to be done, and sometimes forget to look at what it is! I will try to answer everyone's questions. Hope I don't miss any. In no particular order... The lilies in the "big" picture are almost all daylilies. The lilies in the close-up pictures I am not sure. Just some bulbs I picked up, probably at a big box store or the local garden center? Sorry I don't have their names. The rose pictured in the 4th picture is Morden Belle. There are actually 3 bushes planted in that bed. I hope that is the rose you meant? Yes, I do have the courtyard of roses and yes they are blooming. However, many of the roses on the fence were taken down this year due to RRD. I have planted bittersweet in their place. Won't be the beautiful flowers, but will provide privacy that won't get RRD. As you can see from the picture below, the fence is now pretty bare looking on the side. I have decided that I will try to keep the roses on the fence across the end and around the corner. The need for privacy there is not so great, as the Wine and Roses weigela in the island bed does screen most of the garden from that end. Again, thank you everyone! Debra, this jungle bed has been on my radar to clean out for awhile but had to make priorities with limited garden time after getting home from work and the ones that were out front and newer beds came first. It is sad to see how quickly undergrowth can take over. Nancy, Christmas Greetings blooms above the foliage although not at registered height. It is such a pretty color. Kay, what happened to our Bullfrog Kisses? It was so spectacular last year!!! Maryl, yes, my new Spot who has turned out to be such a garden kitty-fun, energetic, inquisitive and a huntress! Thomas Tew has never had this tannish color for me so hopefully it is due to the cool weather. Here is a picture from May 26 last year And the color I have always seen.

Debra, mine is really short too, I do not think my problem is grubs. I planted some new daylilies close to Hillbilly Heart, good size holes, and did not see a single grub. For that matter, I moved and added lots of plants this spring, and in all my digging, I don't think I spotted more than 2 or 3. I think moles took care of all the grubs in the yard. I rarely see Japanese beetles the last couple of years. And the moles seem to have moved on, I guess looking for food. I don't miss either of them, but I imagine they will cycle back. I will be sure to get a clump pic of Glory to His Name, it was beautiful last year. I really like the look of Tiger's Eye, but it has not multiplied since I have had it, and not really bloomed great. Maybe I should try moving it. I think every plant I have has toured my garden. But it is surprising how often moving a plant helps, sometimes it is only a couple of feet. Just weird. Thanks Kate & Sherry! Paw Prints on My Heart is so pretty today, just the way I like to see it, but seems like several UFs are not starting out good. They almost look like they may have gotten sprayed with a bit of weed killer. Not impossible, I am ashamed to say. But a couple of cases, I am pretty sure that is not it, so blaming the up and down weather.

I know that many in our little group would consider 90 degrees hot, but this mid AM we had a very brief "cool" spell come through with a temperature of 90. I thought I'd see what a few of my "faders" looked like in what I consider a milder temperature then usual. After looking at my daylilies, it added weight to a theory about color/substance retention and high temperatures. It seems to be tiered, with most daylilies looking good under 90. Then there is another tier for those that can take 90-95 heat and still be colorfast/sunfast. Over 95 is when the real iron men show up............ Fortunately there are lots of folks who are able to enjoy daylilies in milder temperatures then we have and I get to see many really pretty daylilies..........I like your Imperial decree. I really don't care for a petal that slicks or darkens, so that's a big plus on it....Prairie Pink Lace has the form I like so much. Very pretty.....................Maryl

Julie: I have been wanting SWEET SUMMER HEAT but wasn't sure just how well it would do here. You've changed my mind and I've put it back on for a search.

I cannot pick a favorite from this grouping. They are all wonderful and your pics have the WOW factor.

I know exactly what you mean by trying to manage to keep up with all the postings, plus taking your own pictures, and recording notes, I'm sure!

My eyes temporarily hurt for a couple of seconds when I scrolled down to Flasher! What a statement that one must make in your garden.

Excellent garden shot of Outrageous - that's a nice mature clump showing off with the lilies and roses.

Your duo of Starman's Quest is gorgeous. I also have that one, but it's struggling with cool night temps.

Rita, I have been just dying to see some of my Owens seedlings after seeing yours and Kay's posted. They all have scapes, but have been taking their own sweet time to bloom! Was thrilled when this one came out as it was as wonderful as I had hoped it would be!

Julia, SSH is a wonderful garden plant for me, and this is only it's third year. I don't get the deep watermark that you see in the warmer zone pictures, but it is one that blooms like crazy and glows across the yard. Would definitely recommend it!

I'm really taken with you hot colored blooms on this thread. Flasher, Gold Kissed, Latin Rhythm, Outrageous and Sweet Summer Heat really stand out. Thanks for sharing your beauties with us.

Julie, you must have been posting at the same time I was. All of those on your list would be highly recommended with the exception of Carolicolossal. I really like the bloom, but I have had it for eight years, and it has four scapes on it...and this is the best it has ever done for me. It is gorgeous, and I won't get rid of it as I don't plan on redoing the bed on that slope EVER!

Debra, Hot colored blooms are my favorite as they stand out strongly against our very green and gray world!

Love all the hot colored lilies in your pics, but Larry Grace is such a beauty. That chrome yellow color with just a hint of green is just fabulous. Very nice pics!
