Lots of blooms, few clumps
Kay mentioned the different kinds of things going on this season. Cooler day temps and even cooler nights have impacted blooms and color. I usually have clump shots by now but still seeing only singles and a few doubles. Lava Flow is usually one of the first to bloom but this year I have not seen a single scape. Temps are heating up this week so expect things to change soon!
The above is Thomas Tew-although I have never seen this tannish/beige color in my garden, last night‘s temps were cool so attributing the color to that.

Winged Migration-sent last year--first bloom-in the foliage. But I am sure it will get better with age!
The old reliable Siloam Double Classic
I have often talked about my “jungle bed” an original daylily bed overrun by trees, vines, weeds, grass, poison ivy, honeysuckle, etc. The shelter at home gave me time to clean it up. The daylilies shot up and started pumping out scapes like crazy! Can’t wait to see what this one is! I counted 30 scapes on it!

Lots of buds, very few blooms
Comments (9)Cold weather and soil moisture problems can negatively affect bloomage. Wildly fluctuating temperatures will cause bud drop; soil moisture that goes from very dry to moist/wet & back will also cause bud drop. In some cases, bloomage may be delayed considerably. For example, I have a Debutante that started blooming in January when we suddenly got a cold spell so it stopped blooming. Then it restarted in March. This year, Prof. Sargent has been very tardy. The flower buds look like they should burst open soon but the only problem is that, tonight, the temps will drop to 30 degrees and on the next few days, temps will be around 32+ at night. So, who knows for sure how all the unopened buds will respond. If you can rule out the weather, maybe the plant is not getting enough moisture during the winter months. For example, at first it may have had sufficient moisture during winter but as it grew larger, it could have reached a point where it regularly needs more water than in prior years. Just an example. If you think it is the weather, consider early or late blooming camellias. For example, Camellia sasanqua should not have this kind of problem as it blooms early, when temperatures are much warmer. Comments (16)Debra, I would say that this past week was about overall peak, but I have some beds that are just coming into peak. I've got so many mid to late bloomers in some of them that keeps the season going lots longer. I was noticing today, lots of rebloom scapes coming on also. My eyes temporarily hurt for a couple of seconds when I scrolled down to Flasher! What a statement that one must make in your garden. Comments (12)Maryl, Roy was sent as a gift plant not once but twice (!) by the same vendor one year. I am always wary of that practice “is this a bad plant?”, “is this a plant you want to get rid of?”, etc. However, it has really shown itself to be a really pretty soft orange that so far holds up pretty well. Debra, I do like Marietta Heartbeat. For me, it always opens without those early morning splotches so many purples are habit prone to do. Perhaps because it is just beginning to bloom-this was FFO-so it misses the heavy spring dew. It has also multiplied well in a bad spot. On the other hand, Here Lies Butch has always been a stagnant plant for me. I think Sherry has more luck with it....See More

3 years agoDebra, this jungle bed has been on my radar to clean out for awhile but had to make priorities with limited garden time after getting home from work and the ones that were out front and newer beds came first. It is sad to see how quickly undergrowth can take over.
Nancy, Christmas Greetings blooms above the foliage although not at registered height. It is such a pretty color.
Kay, what happened to our Bullfrog Kisses? It was so spectacular last year!!!
Maryl, yes, my new Spot who has turned out to be such a garden kitty-fun, energetic, inquisitive and a huntress! Thomas Tew has never had this tannish color for me so hopefully it is due to the cool weather. Here is a picture from May 26 last year And the color I have always seen.
