The Holidays are already upon us and cold weather has arrived to make sure we know it! The activities feel a bit more 'real' with that nip in the air. But it would be swell if it would warm up a bit next week when I'm off from work so I could work outside ....

Here's to wishing each and every one of you Happy Holidays and a safe and peaceful New Year.

Merry Christmas to you all! I've learned so much from the folks on this forum and I am grateful to all of you. I enjoy the holidays but what I really look forward to is spring and getting back to GARDENING. My head is just full of plans. Blessing to everyone... Vicki

Well... it seems you went from a not so great Christmas with poor weather that hampered your family plans and your greenhouse, to a very nice New Year's Eve with more family stopping in to visit! Things always seem to have a way of working out... and it was a good year... I'll agree with that! Welcome to 2009! I did manage to stay awake well past midnight... Larry and I watched a couple of movies together... and before I knew, it was almost 2:00am! My first surprise of the New Year is Star of Holland... which opened, and doesn't look like Star of Holland! It's way too white with not enough red to be the right variety, but I like this one... whatever it is! I'll try to get a few new photos posted for an identification. In the meantime, I hope everyone can begin the New Year with a smile! So far, the day is dawning with bright sunshine... a good sign if ever there was one!

LOL Cathy! I know that's heresy, but there are those of us who are gravy challenged. That said, I bought gravy from Gelson's (made by them) and took it to DD's house. Come to find out that no one but DGS Mason (20 months) would eat it! The rest liked their turkey plain or with cranberries. So go figure! DSIL said that his mashed potatoes were so moist that who needed gravy? LOL! Susie, great photos! Loved seeing Amy, Drew and Frank and of course that darling little pixie! I hit the road at 8:30 this morning for an early but stressful doctor's appt. All was perfect and I was back in the car in 23 minutes! That NEVER happens at UCLA! So, I made the best of an early morning and hit Crate & Barrel and the mall. I bought a few things, but wasn't impressed with the prices or the merchandise enough to buy much. I did snag a great quality cashmere sweater, but that was my only real buy. Home to put my feet up and we'll catch up with Netflix and the DVR tonight. Dinner is leftover roasted veggies, stuffing and I'll make some almond parmesan crusted fish for the entree. Stay warm and dry everyone!! It's a blustery chilly day here in sunny L.A. Temps in the high 40-low 50 range. In awhile, I'll clink with y'all with a mug of white pear tea*

Happy Thanksgiving! It's shivery here, with no power since Monday night and uncharacteristically cold temps outside. Thank goodness for the gas rangetop. And we now hear chainsaws down the road, hopefully getting the tree of the lines. 9 of the 10 of us are here, and the 10th is happily situated with another big family who is sharing their holiday with her...and we're all well and safe...so we count our many blessings. Wishing you all a warm and safe and love-filled day.

Happy Christmas and Happy Hannukah! My hubby got me some cool new seeds and a "portable" greenhouse. I'm looking forward to starting some seeds for my son's memorial zoo garden next year. Have a wonderful New Year, everybody!

My Mom and our family came to Georgia for the first Christmas and we ate from the garden for our holiday meal - purple yard long beans that were frozen, butternut squash pie for dessert, fresh tatsoi as the greens, delicious homegrown garlic and herbs for the stuffing. Everyone was mighty pleased. When my sister and her family drove up to the house the boys thought it was "cool" that there was no grass and a rosemary topiary in the big herb planter in the center of the garden. That put a big smile on my face.
Santa brought some garden goodies: a big square shaped tarp van liner so that you can cleanly load manures and mulches into your vehicle and Joy Larkcom's Oriental Vegetables book. My mom even found me a "good gardening" shirt. Something good enough to work in and show people around in at the same time!
