I have found that Paw Paw Everlast Label Company in Michigan is good. You can order on line at www.everlastlabel.com First time I ordered they did send the marking pencil and marking crayon, but had to ask for it on later orders. I've noticed that some of my labels that are three years now are fading somewhat, and I may go to the white, stick on labels that go on the metal marker.
I'm sure there are other places, its always good to shop around for what you want.

Well, tomorrow Naylor is shipping some I got from their auction, including a Golden Meadows. A few of the northerly hosta shippers are having 45 degree weather, so if you are in zone 4, perhaps the hosta will stay on the cooler side all the way to you. I got some really nice plants from Mason Hollow first of June, and had some shipped from NH to around Albany NY as a present, and they arrived looking very sweet indeed. Another one to check into that is up north that way is Green Mountain Hosta in Vermont. I agree that Hallsons has prime quality, but so many are out of stock that I was wanting. With our heat AND humidity, it is a blessing to get things sent quickly via Priority Mail headed out on a Monday or a Tuesday, so the box does not languish in some hot mail depot where they essential get steam cooked. The order I got on 6/13 from Savory's up in Minnesota was mostly small hosta, and they didn't skip a beat were as fresh as the moment they came out of the field. Three even had blooms on them--which I looked at with a magnifying glass!!!! :) The big tall plants have a more difficult time withstanding the heat due to the huge leaf area, I'm thinking.

Thank you both for that information. I just went to Stark Bros. website. They say Fuji must be cross-polinated with a different variety and recommended Gala, Braeburn, Golden Delish and a few others. ONly problem was, they're sold out of all the trees they recommended for cross-polination, including the golden delish, but they did have Fuji in stock. So, I went ahead and ordered one Fuji semi-dwarf. They said they will ship in a couple days so I can get it right into the ground and baby it through summer. Then next spring, when Atwood's and Lowe's have tons and tons of golden delish, I'll buy a new one of those. If the Fuji gets to be too much of a pain in the neck to take care of, I guess I could always replace it with another Delicious apple. I hope, what with them being in the front yard, that they will be far enough from cedar but at any time in the future one of my neighbors can decide to landscape with cedar in their front yards and then that'll mess me up. We'll see! We had a hard rain this morning. It overflowed my half-empty mushroom-shaped water tank AND the empty tank I just bought (on sale at Atwood's, and shaped like a barrel on it's side). We just got it hooked up to the downspout on the other side of the house. I'm amazed how much water comes down those downspouts!

When you go looking for sources, one good place to check is HelpMeFind Roses ... Look for the "Buy From" tab, upper right. But be cautious, too, about WHAT you order. Some roses I know to be wonderful in TX don't "shine" where I am, on the SoCal coast. Rust is one problem. Mildew another. We aren't much troubled by blackspot -- but oh, man, MILDEW! So, you may find that at least some roses you loved in a TX garden aren't available in CA because ... they don't do well here.

If you don't care too much that they aren't pretty plant markers, I'd recommend using window blinds. I have used these for years and they outlast just about anything else. When you use pencil for marking, the sun doesn't fade it out. Even a black permanent marker eventually fades out here in Texas, but pencil doesn't. These are great to use for plants you take to swaps, and they keep the blinds out of landfills. The plastic ones are easier to write on than the metal blinds, and they seem to be a little sturdier. They are also easier to cut.

I get mine from paw paw too. The free shipping is awesome, as they are heavy. I use a brother labler to attach labels, but I also write the name of the cultivar in pencil on the back. The sun can't fade it there and that way I'm covered even if the brother label fades. Get more than you think you will need. The price is better with the larger quanities and you will need them, because all the pics everyone posts on this forum will certainly entice you to keep adding new faces to your garden.

I love using the blinds for seedlings and divisions that I'm giving away too. Avoid using the "permanent marker" pens. They fade out in less than a season in full sun. Patty is right, pencil is the way to go on these types of markers.

I just bought 100 rose markers from Paw Paw Everlast Markers, they were $37.50, and they came within a few days after ordering. I didn't get a pencil this time, but already had some from a previous order through Park Seeds.
