This is my first year growing daylilies and my first flower has finally opened.

Pardon Me

I know it's one of the more common ones and probably not to exciting to everyone else, but I just had to share.

Please continue to share your photos. I love Pardon Me and it was one of the first daylilies I purchased years ago. When it comes to these beautiful flowers, there's everything to get excited about.

Altorama, for what it's worth, below are some photos of the roses I have that were labeled Desiree Parmentier and Yolande d'Aragon. Click on photos to see larger images. (Sorry the leaves are not in great shape--I am a bad rose mom!) I have had proliferation on DP--I think it's fairly common on that rose. My YdA has stiffer stems than my DP. Marcia DP leaves on left, YdA on right DP leaves & stem YdA - back of leaves YdA stem YdA leaves DP leaves and stem DP - group of roses YdA roses DP from a few years ago--see the bud proliferation on the left

Thanks, guys :-) Some mildly analytical stuff: 1. The containers that have sprouted are all part of a the ones I grouped together in big garbage bags...I guess that ups the temps a bit, having the big plastic around them. I put a lot of containers in the bags for easy transport and for dog protection (from picking up a container and running off with it...which has happened before). Not all the containers in the bags have sprouted (there's a whole lot more of them), but those on the list above have. 2. The sprouted containers are also with a group of containers that are in Southern exposure. ( I have other bags of containers on my porch, in Northern exposure). This proves why it could be bad to have them in Southern exposure, because now, I'm more inclined to worry, since we now have snow and it's going to be in the 20s or lower tonight. But then, the ouotdoor temps have been in the low to mid 20s every night for the past two weeks and that didn't keep them from sprouting. ..but I'm not looking at those containers or opening them up...not for a few days, at least. Whatever will be will be...and I have a feeling a lot of those sprouts will be just fine. --I think I do need to slip a thermometer inside one of those bags of containers, though. I'm curious as to how much warmer it is in there. Linda

I would be excited too upon receiving that wonderful swap package! The berry bowls from our local potteries look a bit different, but the purpose is the same. Here in NC ours look more like colanders with cut-outs instead of holes and there is a shallow saucer that the bowl sits in to contain the water. That cookbook looks verrrrr-y interesting! Wow, those are both gorgeous slabs!!! Can't wait to see finished products! So nice to see other "patina" fans! I have had many friends try to talk me out of my honed Carrera island that I'm installing bc of the inevitable etching, staining, etc. When I tell them that I love the look of the worn in marble oyster bars from my childhood (I'm from NOLA) and the old fashioned counters of hotels, they think I'm nuts. I received Pardo Me in a RR not too long ago and would you believe it has bloomed already!I am just getting into dl's and this is my first named one. I was very excited also. Blessings, Margaret

Pardon Me was also one of my first plants and it is still a
favorite. It increases very well, it holds its beautiful
color and it gives oodles of flowers.

Hooray for Pardon Me.

I remember how excited I was when my first DL bloomed. I am sure you will have that same feeling over, and over again. Your Pardon Me looks great. And pardon me : ), but since you have just joined the DL world my 1st piece of advice, even though you didn't ask, is to give them plenty of room, mulch and plant them in the ground if at all possible. I have many in pots, 3 gal. size, and they do much better in the ground. Five gal. pots might make a big difference, but potted plants take a lot of watering and nutrients.

It IS exciting! I have 2 Pardon Me plants. One I got really cheap at home depot and it isn't going to bloom this year - it's a single fan and I didn't plant it in enough sun anyway. The other I just bought and it has a bunch of buds, but they are really small so I think it won't bloom anytime soon.

Congratulations on a good purchase. I have had my Pardon Me for several years and it is always beautiful when it blooms, because its bud count is fairly high and there always seem to be many blooms open at the same time. It increases pretty fast too. Congratulations. Please post more pictures.

Hooray for Pardon Me.I have at least 6 of them scattered around the yard and they been blooming since mid April and still going strong.They multiply fast and very good bloomers.Gorgeous picture of yours.Post some more photos as we all love to see every ones DL photos.Can't never get enough.

Congratulations!

This is my first year with the daylily "contagion" too. I know that feeling. I didn't expect anything to bloom and now I have so many scapes up I'm just awestruck. Have to race outside first thing every morning to see if I was right the night before when I predicted who would open up that day. On the weekends I'm outside all day. I take breaks from the weeding to walking around with my journal recording how every plant is doing.

It was one of my first purchases, and continues to please me with its continuous blooming and reblooming.
