A couple FFOs and photos from open garden

I had two FFOs today:

Magnificent Rainbow

and Iron Eyes (it has stipples)

These two minis were the bluest I've ever seen them:

All American Baby

Mystic Mariner

Also, last Saturday I went to an open garden of someone in my daylily club and it was impressive! She has over 1,000 daylilies! I finally got a chance to resize the photos and upload them to an album. Here's a couple photos from it:

The very tall daylily on the top right of the photo (yes that's a six foot tall daylily - unfortunately it wasn't blooming) is Notify Ground Crew

Great Photos Juliet...I went to your Webshot page and your photos are gorgeous there also. But I must point out one of them. Caribbean Rosie Christa doesn't seem to be the correct flower. I have it growing in my garden and it looks nothing like yours. So one of ours is incorrect.

Rita and nat4b, Hard times was a bonus from Jim Murphy, I think it was three years ago. (Rita? or 2 years) Anyway, it did well, but was in a terrible place too close to the oak tree, and competing with it's roots as well. I moved it, and since it is a hard dormant, I thought I had lost it at first. Then, as it cam up, I was very surprised to have 15 fans! Debra, Purple Honey Creeper has been such a good plant this year. It started blooming the last of May, and has been blooming almost continuously since then. Thanks, Linda. Tree turtles is such a tall plant I can turn it on it's side when I post, so it is a huge pic. I am enjoying the new one, Indian Ripple. nat4b, I recommend Deliverer to anyone. It always reblooms, and is a beautiful bloom besides. kay

A Couple of Questions and Rebloom Photos From Saturday

Thank you all for looking and commenting. Sherry, Tree Turtles is usually anywhere from 48 to the listed 56 inches. And the blooms will be all over the plant...not too pretty to me to begin with, but they curl up like bows and even the colors become much clearer and prettier in the sun. Most unusual. Nan, you will like Flaming Flamingo...it is not an extra early full opening bloom, but it stands up very well to the sun and looks more striking as the day heats up. As I said, I am very happy with the performance of both Possession of Obsession and Spoken in Parables. Both are reliable re-bloomers here. Finally, the blooms are beginning to die down....not out yet, but I expect few clump shots after the next few days, but will still have a lot of re-bloomers which I will wait to post until there re a sufficient number of them. I am wishing all of you who are in the beginning and middle of your seasons (and you Celeste) to have great seasons. kay

A late FFO a couple of repeats

Thank you all for the comments, We had thunderstorms late yesterday afternoon and continued through late evening. Suppose to get more storms this afternoon and the humidity will start ramping up. The crosses I need a month or so ago with Spring Mystique and Lavender Blue Baby are looking very good. Some areas of the gardens are completely devoid of daylily blooms while other areas are continuing. Other perennials are continuing. julia

A couple May garden photos

That is wild columbine I brought from the woods on my Dad's cabin property many, many years ago. The mother plant is no more, but it's offspring appears here and there around the property, not just the garden. I do end up pulling quite a few young plants as they can become a nuisance. Yes, I did the stone work myself including laying the natural stone pavers over 35yrs. ago. I made the topiaries using boxwood - a tea pot and a tea cup. They are both due for a first trim. As of now, the most of the Spring blooms are finished in the other borders around the courtyard, so not much to see until later this month thru July.

Thanks carlamarie - I don't know what Caribbean Rosie Christa is supposed to look like - and I couldn't find any other photos of it in a google search. Yours is probably right because it's registered as a bright rose. Maybe someone else has it and knows?

Hi Juliet,
I loved your photos of the open garden tour. I looked at the photos in your album, too. It's interesting to see how she has her beds laid out and what companion plants are growing with the daylilies. I also loved your photos of All American Baby and Mystic Mariner. I wish the blooms were really as large as they are in your photos! I grow Mystic Mariner, and it's a personal favorite. I got All American Baby last year, but so far I don't have any scapes. There must be too much shade where it's planted.

Debra - I really enjoyed the open garden tour, but I can't imagine having to deadhead a thousand daylilies! If you're interested, I have some more long shots of the garden that I didn't post because you can't see the daylilies that well, but you can see the overall layout better.

I just got Mystic Mariner last fall and this is it's first season here, but I think it's going to be a favorite for me too! I hope All American Baby blooms for you - it's another of my favorites. I sometimes wish they were bigger too, but they are very cute the size they are.
