They stay moderate in size, for years. Mine is at least 6 years old and is about 7' tall.

Oh Lisa, I am so excited I got this baby. I could not believe how small the 3 gal plants were that had blooms and baby fruit when I was at Lowes. I ususally do not shop there, but all their misc citrus trees, both 3 gal and 1 gal in the 9.98/19.98 section were so wonderfully healthy looking. Of course, my arms are all scratched because my 'perfect' baby I wanted to bring home was all the way to the back! lol I have planted it down from the Pom and within eyeshot from my kitchen window. You are going to turn me into a Fruit Princess, for sure!

Cindee, we have twins!! Lisa is such an enabler! We were talking about the new growth on my Sanbokan with just attacked by leaf miners, so she told me what to get. Then she told me about the pink lemon at Lowe's. Well long story short they had just one. I'm going to pot it up tonight. I'll take some pictures over the weekend.

I have been looking at these for about a year now. Didn't want to pay on-line shipping etc..

Cindee, cindee, cindee...didn't you notice mine in the yard next to where you parked your car? (It had the black cat by it.) I had 1 fruit last year but something or someone got it when my back was turned.
This is how bad Lisa is an enabler. I have 3 trees from Lowes at my parents house in Pompano. (Palistine lime, persian lime and meyer lemon.)

Ok, we have one that last year put out a fruit and I can't remember if we got to eat it or not. It may have dropped. Anyway, leaves have dropped and we only have two leaves on it now. It did flower this year, had small fruit which dropped. HELP!!!!! We want to revive it.

Kristi, Of course I noticed yours...don't you remember my pinching the leave and smelling it when we were traipsing around your garden? I wish my parents were still alive, my father would love it if I 'hid plants' at his house. He was my gardening inspiration!

Marion, so glad we got twins!! Did you get the 1 or 3 gallon plant? The ones they had at our new Lowes looked like they were just delivered. They had dozens of 'em.

In an effort to protect my baby from mowers and wackers, and having no edging around, I came up with something clever. I took broken clay saucers and pots and halved a floral plate to make and edging. Also, wally gator is there to nibble any ankles that get too close!

Oh man, what a great idea! My lawn guys have a really bad habit of weed whacking my trees and I can't afford all that edging. I never though of improvising like that.

joanm I just had another brain fart! We ran outta pavers that are under my potting bench. My stool at the bench sits with front feet on the pavers and back feet on the ground. HEY I do not need any help tilting!! I grabbed 2 unused clay saucers and inverted them under the back feet of the stool. I am level, now, baybee!

I got the one gallon size. It was dark and raining so I didn't take the time to look at anything else.
Joan we must have the same lawn guys. LOL I beat them at their own game...I remove the grass about 18" out lay down newspaper and mulch. It's working like a charm now.

Marion, I do the grass/lawn removal perimeter too but when they are wacking, they go out swinging. Break a few whips on the plates and they will learn to keep their distance. Keep in mind, I know they don't mean to hurt my babies, they are on a mission to wack and mow....

Called chris this afternoon and he went out and got a 3 gallon one. Originally he was "meh" on the whole thing but then he decided to get it. YAYAY!

That is so cool Misti. I spent about a 1/2 hour looking at each leaf and debating which vairegated pattern I want to draw. You should have great fun with their beautiful colorations and your artistic abilities!

I propose a "stoning" of the guilty party (me) using sweet, juicy, ripe fruits, and tossing them slowly so I can catch them unharmed and keep them for later consumption.

Sounds fair to me! After all, you have to suffer for years to come, looking at the foliage below, and amazing your friends with yummy, striped, pink Lemons..

I make no claims against you. As as a matter of fact I want so much to be like you.."One-With-Fruit" You have made it so amazingly easy for me and I am sure others, to accept the fact that we can grow these awesome trees, fruits, berries!! Taking stock tonight (Oh yeah, Dennis noticed the lemon and said, 'That's nice where did you...Oh never mind, I like it's leaves". HAH!! Anyway he walked with me arm and arm around our home. After we went the Joes Crab Shack for dinner...KRISTI...they brought out the pony again for a lady and gave her a Stetson and made her dance the whole place!!!
Anyway Dennis was amazed at all the fruits I am growing. As we walked, we of course took in the pink lemon, the Wonderful Vietnam Pom bursting with blooms, the pineapple patch with my still growing baby (12 plants in all), the new Raja Puri banana from Lady and the starts from Tony's Mulberry, the Carambola I started from seed and then around to the arbor where I have a blueberry hanging on, my thornless blackberry(Lisa-did that one I gave you take?)Then the grapes, concords and Ison Black. And my new TonyRaspberry. After we were done walking Dennis asked me how I knew what to do with all this. He was amazed and said he looks around and sees just green and flowers. After seeing each fruit for itself, he was as blown away as I was that I am growing all this stuff. He hugged me and has been calling me Fruit Salad mama!! Thank you Lisa, more than anything you have given me courage to TRY!!!!

I ahve to admit, mien is one of my favorite trees, though it in no way stayed small for me. Well, it did for the first few years, and then SPROING! But I have a bench under it ,and I want it to make a cool, varigated shade that is scented with lemon blooms, so I'm totally in love with it. And for the first time, it has a few little striped baby lemons. I'm such a proud mama!

Another nice thing about this one is that the suckers and water shoots that you remove can be beautiful in cut flower arangements.

Hey Amber, I had to cut one of the lower branches on mine, I have it in a tall bud vase. Ain't it beautiful? I have mine planted at the side wall outside my kitchen windon. As it matures it will help shade the window from late day sun and it will be the perfect place for a bench or a sitting stump....now to find a stump! What does the fruit taste like? All descriptions says it is sweeter than other lemons.

You girls make me want to get one also! My husband and I went to Lowes yesterday and we saw a 1 gal Var. lemon. However, I was so disapointed to find so many sharp thorns on it. How do you all manage to not get hurt? I am so tempted to get one but those thorns! I know I am a woose(spell?). I have even resisted roses.

a 3 gal because it had little lemons and some blossons and a 1 gal because it was all by its lonesome all of its friends had found new homes.

They are now in pots on the patio. They seem very happy in their new home :):):)

Karla, wonderful! Aren't the baby lemons so cute with their little stripey skins? It was really hard to pass them up. But I was good.

Go for it Gabriele. It's not like you're gonna hug it. If my tree ever gets that big with that many blossoms, I'll use gloves to harvest. Most of my citrus have thorns but I still have to smell every bloom. It's no big deal...after you plant or pot them....really.

Gabriele, Lemon trees require minimal care, so you won't need to handle it much. You can easily snip off the ends of the thorns, they will not regrow points. It would take about 5 minutes to disarm a 1 gallon plant.

Citrus aren't pruned much, as a rule, so you shouldn't be reaching into the tree often. The fruits are on the outer edges, easy to pick.

Many Citrus have thorns, especially the sour ones. But they are wonderful, pretty, useful plants-that makes the thorns unimportant, in the long run.

Ok, you convinced me that the thorns would be ok. The only problem now is that we already have a meyer lemon and want to get a sambo lemon also. My husband thinks that we would have too many lemon trees if we get the Var. Pink.

Does anyone know if the fruit production time is varied enough on these lemon varities? We have a young orchard (3-5 yrs old) of various fruit and citrus trees that are just starting to produce some this year. We do not want to be flooded with fruit.

Gabriele, 3 lemon trees are a great idea! They ripen at slightly different times, and hold well on the tree. When my Bearss Lemon gives us a huge crop, I juice the fruits and freeze into lemon ice cubes. Those are kept in baggies in the freezer to enjoy all year. You can do this with any citrus, so you aren't without citrus during the summer.

Or, you could get another tree (a small one), a Key Lime-those produce year-round(G). Meyer are supposed to be year-round producers, but my 2 did not read the book. They have ripe fruit in winter only.

I got a question though, how often should I fertilize and water? I got the 1 gal size tree.

Mine are doing great the 3 gal one has been putting out new blossoms like crazy the 1 gal still has none but I am hoping it will look at the 3 gal and feel bad so it will start :)

As the little lemons are getting biger I can really see the stripes.
One question is this a slow fruit to get big.
The lemons on my "sweet lemon" are now bigger than golf balls

Karla, my best guess is to get Lisa-the "Fruit Queen" to answer that question. She, after all is at fault for me buying mine. I do not know their growth rate, but I sure love my baby. I pinched a leaf today to inhale her tangy fragrance.
