Today's blooms and some lost photos

Nothing new blooming today. But I took a few photos just to document some of what's still blooming. I also found several photos I mistakenly put in my Lamberson folder during June. I'll post a few of those too.

ROYAL JESTER is blooming its heart out this season. It looks like this will be my longest blooming late again.

RUBY LIPSTICK - You know I can't resist photographing it almost daily. It never has a bad bloom.

CRAZY MISS DAISY reblooming

WONDER OF WONDERS still blooming tall and proud in the Circle Bed.

WAVES BECOME WINGS - the last one on this Very Late bloomer.

Great clump of ROYAL JESTER. RUBY LIPSTICK is lovely as always. I will just make it a tie between those two for my favorite.

Hi Christina, good news, I had a couple of later blooms of The Wedgewood Rose that did indeed keep from nodding, so I suspect that as the plant ages it builds up stronger stems. Juliet, there is a slight purple cast to the flowers, but nothing as strong as many other roses. What makes Princess Anne so wonderful is how the colours fade as the flower ages. I really like this rose. Renee, I'm very, very pleased with Wollerton Old Hall. I think this may be one of Austin's best roses in years. The colour is great, the shape is great, the fragrance is intense and it just keeps putting out flowers. Fantastic so far. Hi Ingrid, The Wedgewood Rose has an old fashioned delicacy that I really like. I think of my mom when I see it, and know that she would have found it irresistible. It's soft, and frilly and delicate. Birdwing, St Cecilia is one of my absolute favourite roses. I love everything about it, but especially the scent, it's wonderful. Meredith, I would recommend growing The Wedgewood Rose as a climber, even if the stems do build up some more strength, this is a rose that just screams for a trellis. I don't really know were to put NORTHERN NOCTURN. I guess I could always just switch it with something else. But for now, at least, its going to stay were it is. I bought it over the winter on the lily auction because the picture was just so beautiful. So far, it does not look much like the picture to me. I don't mean that it's the wrong plant. I just mean that it needs lots of improving. No point in moving it until I see if it can make something of itself. If it can't then it goes on the big move, bye bye right out of my garden.

So hard to pick a favorite from this group. I've been wanting NTS for a while but wasn't sure it would look like the pictures. Thanks for posting your's. It's beautiful and now I know I must get it! :) Also love Panchen Lama. Haven't seen that one before. Very pretty....they're ALL pretty. Tahoe is new to me this year and I don't think it will bloom. So I'm happy to see a picture of your Tahoe. Michelle

Thank you for sharing your lovely garden again with us, Marlorena. I've must say I smile every time I've seen a photo of Tottering-By-Gently - never saw the cartoon when I lived in England but the idea of it is so English, and those bright, innocent little single bloom faces peeping out through some apparently very nice dark foliage lift my heart. Wow, what a stunner A Midsummer Night's Dream is! Such rich colours, of both velvety petal and golden stamens, and so beautifully photographed, as is TBG... Is it related to Tuscany/Tuscany Superb I wonder? Is it a nice bush? Does it repeat bloom/ and/or set hips? I don't think I've heard of it before, likewise a couple of others of interest to me, M de Morand and Bellard. You do find some interesting treasures - I wonder if you buy them in England or from European suppliers? I hope you'll forgive me if I've already asked, and you've already told us at some point in the past, and the information has got lost somewhere in the nether regions of my memory.

Edward - Quiet Time is just an exquisite daylily. It was hybridized by Jesse George of JTM Gardens. I have several of his wife, Terah's, unusual forms. JTM Gardens also sells a wide variety of other hyrdizer's daylilies. I highly recommend them.

Well I'm crazy for CRAZY MISS DAISY! It resides on my wish list. ROYAL JESTER is one of my faves here because it blooms late and will be one of the last bloomers in my garden.

Julia - Waves Becomes Wings is a great late blooming Hanson. I've been pushing it for three years on here, but I haven't convinced many people - even Hanson lovers - how great it is. Maybe the narrow shape of the petals turns some people off. I love its substance and wavy petal edges.

Lovely pictures as always. I guess if I keep picking the same ones as favorites that it means I should get them and I still love Ruby Lipstick and Crazy Miss Daisy.

Val - Those are two really good ones. Sorry I don't have any more new ones to post. I've scapes on couple of my Maryott buys that came in June. Unlike others, I do let them bloom the first year.

I am new to daylilies and I have absolutely loved all of the pictures of Ruby Lipstick. Do you have any suggestions as to where I could buy this daylily? I really don`t even know where to look. It is so beautiful and would be a lovely addition to my garden. Thank you for these beautiful pictures. Lesley

Lesmc - I got it from the hybridizer, John Benz at Benz Gardens, three years ago. He still lists it at $200 on his website. It's offered sometimes on the Lily Auction at MUCH lower prices. In fact, I will be offering some fans of it when I do my auctions in January. You just have to keep your eye out for it.

I like Royal Jester. Ruby Lipstick is very pretty! But my favorite here is Quiet Time.
