I am sure that it has similar parentage as the Gower's Ramsey. But the flowers are larger and the plant is smaller which is why I was thinking it could be a Sweet Sugar. I do not know much about Gower's Ramesy either. Possibly this is just a cultivar of it. I was not aware of how popular this type of hybrid is. Maybe it will always be a NOID.

Don, I know that the Jade Stone flowers are almost 6 inches long, and the scape has leaves beneath the lower blossoms....sort of like they are there to hold up those really creamy thick-petaled blossoms. Plus, the scape on Jade Stone is really thick in diameter. My version of Jade Stone has a lot of pale green mid leaf. Sure enough, it is blooming in mid-July, pure white huge. Steve, you are right about the smaller flowers not being typical of the ones suggested among the fragrants. Although there are some fairly small lavender tinged and whites too I guess. Some of my garden I don't rightly know what color flowers, since not all have bloomed among my late arrivals. Hosta sleuthing is a fun pastime. I'll be glad if I ever learn to plot all the variables like experienced folk can. Like playing Clue.

The rose slug is tiny, no more than 1/4-inch long and very slender, and it's the exact same pale green as the undersides of the leaves. Talk about hard to see and find! It's the critter that "skelotinizes" rose leaves. It's pretty easy to get rid of, actually. Almost any good spray will do the job: insecticidal soap, Neem, pyrethrum. The trick is to spray thoroughly UNDER the leaves. Not stand back and spray all over. You have to get UNDER the leaves. By the way, a commonly suggested spray for rose sawfly is BT. It doesn't work. It doesn't work because it's meant for the caterpillars of moths and butterflies. The rose slug is the larvae of a wasp. And I'm not sure of any beneficial insect that preys upon it. As for your rose buds, Applenut has a good idea. Go outside late at night with a flashlight. The critter most likely is an earwig, sowbug or pillbug. It also might be a slug or snail.
