Rita;Thank you, I just love them lilies.I have had people stop in the middle of the street when I was outside and yell at me, asking what are them Red flowers.One even parked in my yard and got out to come get a closer look at them and ask what they were.They do attract attention as they are so bright,and so pretty.yes, the Daylily certainly gets a A for effort.I was so disappointed that it didnt open up all the way, but, it has more buds, so maybe next time it will open good. CINDY, Thabnk you. the days got warmer, was 83 today, and the nights are suppose to warm up, too. NANCY:MAYBE your lilies will bloom soon, too..I never knew anything like these existed until I seen the pictures that Rita posted of hers.So many gorgeous lilies, that I never knew existed.I guess the orientals bloom around July and August ? I was disappointed in the daylily when it didnt open up right, but, it still has more buds on it, so maybe one of them will open wide.at least,I can see its going to be a beauty when it blooms right. I found a bunch of scapes on the daylilies today, that just appeared over night. Jean

Oh, I just love this. The pics are great guys! I got siloam Ury Winniford, and siloam merl Kent this year. Glad I did from seeing your pics. My UW has a few tiny scapes, but my MK is a bit newer and hasen't put any scapes up yet, but it is growing well. I got Dragon dreams, which to me kinda looks like S. David Kirchhoff, but it reblooms. Ive got lots of scapes on that one! I really like siloam fine art and Tiny tim. Another mini that I really want, (isn't siloam though) is George jets on. I have high hopes for the ones I have, and would love if they turn out as nice as your pics! -Jessica

Thanks all!! It IS wonderful to have blooms this late. I got another surprise this afternoon, as another bloom on Popcorn Pete popped open... I thought it was going to be tomorrow, because this morning, he wasn't open. But, I think the cool weather is keeping them closed longer, but also open longer. My bloom on How Sweet It Is from yesterday is still looking beautiful today. Velvet - welcome!! Just wait until spring and you see all the lovely gardens here. You'll need a bib.

Julia, absolutely DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON YOUR ELECTRIC FENCE!!! When the power is on, it will burn it or ground it at that point where contact is made. (I hope I have this right.) We have to be vigilant and check the wires to keep them free of anything. We have some daylily foliage very close to the wires, and these will burn if they touch. We go in and clip them back if this happens. When you do your fence, try to keep this in mind. Try to keep them away from the plants as much as possible so there will be little chance of this happening. Unfortunately, our setup means we have to watch the plants that are close to the perimeter, and do our best to keep them away from the wires. Next year, we will be in the process of evaluating a number of the d.lilies and other plants in there to see what should stay and what should go. We might be able to move some things more into the middle and away from those lines. The moonflowers you see in the pics are planted on an old barbed-wire fence that we have never taken down--probably should do that some day. We try to start seeds in April or May and get them in the ground when they are growing good. We have a trellis in the middle of the Main Garden and the moonflowers are grown there,(and on the old fence.) Usually, by the middle of August into Sept. it is pretty well covered with vines, and it's wonderful when the flowers bloom. In the evening, the nighthawk moths come in to pollinate the flowers, and it's fun to watch them, they look like hummingbirds. We also grow tuberoses and they bloom about the same time, so in the evening the fragrance is tremendous. Avedon
