Everything looks soooo pretty Avedon. Your lilies are so picture perfect. I just love Siloam Double classic. Mine blooms so good and I go gaga over it everytime I see it. I love your pink grass. Have been tempted several times to get some but haven't yet. Running outta room and really have to be particular in anything new I decide to get.

My husband is putting up an electric fence this spring. The deer are getting so outta control and the deer hunters aren't getting any of them for some reason. I love to look at the deer but they don't return the favor. They eat up everything in site. Now they have broken in half a yellow tulip tree and one of my tree roses. The buck was rubbing his rack against it or something. I dunno. My husband explained it to me but I was sooooo mad I just didn't listen. lol!! Yours looks like it will keep them out pretty good.

Wow, you have wonderful shots of your daylilies. The seedling is great. How old is it?
If I ever thought to put any kind of grass in the garden,ornamental, my husband would think I totally lost it. I love seeing all the different kinds but after spending years getting rid of it, I just would prefer to keep my sanity. LOL You pics really show what you can do with the different types and very lovely.

I see the fencing and how you set it up. I now have to figure out how much of the area I could actually have wired up without giving myself a shock as well LOL.

I LOVE your seedling! It is drop-dead gorgeous. Great job on that one. All your daylilies are breathtaking. I was glad to see your photo of 'Welcome Mat'. I have that one on my wish list and yours looks great. I love the pink grass too. It reminds me of cotton candy.

Judy and Jean: Siloam Double Classic is a beauty here, but I find that it has that tendency to bloom big one or two years and then rest. It has not been a rapid increaser, but I would hate to toss it for that reason.

Julia, the seedling has been blooming for about 3 years. That photo was actually taken 2 years ago, 2009, when we had lots of rain. It wasn't too bad in 2010, but this year it didn't do much at all, because of the drought and heat. I love the flower, but I'm not certain it will be a keeper. We find this grass to not seed as freely as some of them, and we keep the seedlings to give away. They are very popular with people here.
If you look at the picture of the electric fencing, you may be able to see 3 gates that allow us to get in and out (there are four, one on each side). The wiring runs up and over each gate so the connections can be made, the circuit can be completed. There's a lot more to it than this, this is the quick version, since all the wires are HOT when the electricity is on. It has been totally effective, and we have two more like this, although the veggie garden only has two HOT strands. It still seems to keep the deer away.
Also, I know you were posting about moonflowers, so I am sending a couple of pics made two years ago. Deer will eat moonflowers, so we were lucky that year, they didn't bother them.

P. S. Jean, I am sure you are right--no electric fences in the city--first person to touch the wire would probably sue, but that's something you would have to check out. Also, it is raining here, supposed to get good rains, sure hope so.

I think you did a great job, I don't see anything wrong with your pictures. We can see them all just fine. Lovely, lovely daylilies and lots of them. My favorite is that beautiful yellow Star Struck Clump. So pretty! But then they are all pretty. And I am really, really liking that pink flowered grass along the fence line. Electric fence looks good, I can see it just fine!

It had to be a tough year for plants in Texas this year. Hope you all are getting the much needed rain now.

Nice pics of the Moonflower. Nothing here. It was in early October that I noticed small buds but then we had our typical up and down weather temps and nothing bloomed. I will try again next year but this time I am planning on starting them in spring and move them out in May. Now I have to ask, are they vining on your electric fence? I see the wiring in the photo.

Julia, absolutely DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON YOUR ELECTRIC FENCE!!! When the power is on, it will burn it or ground it at that point where contact is made. (I hope I have this right.) We have to be vigilant and check the wires to keep them free of anything. We have some daylily foliage very close to the wires, and these will burn if they touch. We go in and clip them back if this happens. When you do your fence, try to keep this in mind. Try to keep them away from the plants as much as possible so there will be little chance of this happening. Unfortunately, our setup means we have to watch the plants that are close to the perimeter, and do our best to keep them away from the wires. Next year, we will be in the process of evaluating a number of the d.lilies and other plants in there to see what should stay and what should go. We might be able to move some things more into the middle and away from those lines.
The moonflowers you see in the pics are planted on an old barbed-wire fence that we have never taken down--probably should do that some day. We try to start seeds in April or May and get them in the ground when they are growing good. We have a trellis in the middle of the Main Garden and the moonflowers are grown there,(and on the old fence.) Usually, by the middle of August into Sept. it is pretty well covered with vines, and it's wonderful when the flowers bloom. In the evening, the nighthawk moths come in to pollinate the flowers, and it's fun to watch them, they look like hummingbirds. We also grow tuberoses and they bloom about the same time, so in the evening the fragrance is tremendous. Avedon

AVEDON, We sure did get the rain last night and hope you got some too.Got 5.5 inches here last night.I am sure ewverything got a very good watering this time and should last awhile.I am ready for some sunshine now, Its been cloudy since Saturday and a mist until last night when the bottom dropped out of them clouds,and its not raining now since this afternoon, but still cloudy.
The daylilies are gorgeous, I also have fairy tale Pink and love it.

Jean, hooray for you. So glad you got that tremendous rain. We did not get as much, but we managed almost 3 inches, which was amazing to us. Can't remember when we have had that much rain at one time, probably sometime in 2010. We did beat the rain total for another big drought year in 2005. We had 23.17 inches that year, and for this year we are up to 24.20. I can hardly believe it, after such a dry spring and terrible summer. Can you believe we might get some snow flurries--might be predicted for you, too. Crazy Weather!!! I plan to post more pictures soon, so be on the lookout. Avedon

Lovely Avedon. Your pictures are beautiful and very clear. I love the pink grass. It is so ephemeral...as celeste said, like cotton candy. Your seedling is really lovely, and I always love the clumps. At least you can fence out the deer. That is the only good thing, huh?
