Texas Star Hibiscus (Scarlet H., Swamp H. or Scarlet Rose Mallow)

An old plant lover gave me a small Texas Star Hibiscus yesterday. (It is also called Scarlet Hibiscus, Swamp Hibiscus or Scarlet Rose Mallow.) The leaves look nothing like most hibiscus: they are similar to leaves of a Japanese maple. It has a bright, deep red flower, similar in color to a poinsettia. Does anyone else have this plant? Do you have it in full sun, all shade or part/part? Does it freeze back in winter like other hibiscus? Also, this little guy looks kind-of viny - like he might spread if given the opportunity. Is this plant invasive in any way? So far, he is in the pot!

Thanks,

Carol
