Can I rework an old boxwood hedge or does it need to go?

I have a foundation planting of boxwood in the front of my little ranch-style house that is trimmed formally in a square shape, about 5ft tall by 4ft deep that came with the house. I suspect they have been there for many years and they are very healthy and would look fabulous...somewhere else.

It is not the style I like and do not really fit the scale of the house; they cover part of the window and is too bulky.

I hate to tear them all out and start over in that area. I have considered taking out the middle ones and pruning the others, but I don't know if they would look good or stay healthy, but they might frame the window that way.

I thought about digging them up and moving them to my huge backyard and letting them naturalize to their genetic size, which is more my thing.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Gina
