S-I'm afraid I'm not a wealth of knowledge about the peanuts but I'll tell you what I know. First I don't think they take foot traffic very well. I will have to get an edger to keep it off the sidewalks and out of the street and to keep it seperated from the jasmine. I don't plan on mowing it.

I just planted the peanuts in January so I'm not sure how they will be over the long haul...through the winter. Right now I patrol it (along with the minima jasmine) for weeds.

in my zone, they go dormant during the winter. that said, they are consistently perennial. just don't make the mistake of thinking that they need no water -- they need SOME.

i've seen very effective plantings of them in hard to water areas, like islands in parking lots.

home depot sells trays of 9 plants for $12. those nine plants could easily cover a large (say, 20x20) area in a season.

they are very easy to propagate. i've forgotten the name of the kind woman who gave me a garbage bag full of cuttings at a trade last year in orlando. but nearly all the cuttings took root. i used them as a green manure crop in an area that now is a veg garden. i still get sprouts coming up, even after i dumped dozens of bags of leaves and compost in the area on top.

i've seen them at ECHO as a groundcover under fruit trees. it looked smashing...

I had perennial peanuts as most of my lawn in Naples, FL and they flowered all winter and went kind of dormant in the heat in the summer, but grew like crazy. We used a weed wacker to mow them and they popped up with flowers within a day or 2. I'm now in zone 8 and just bought 5 to put in to see how they do in South Carolina. I was told they'd be ok as a perennial. We'll see. Good luck - they grow like weeds, but are prettier and they DO take over quickly.
