Nothing Earth Shattering...Just Nice to See Spring Finally...

...isn't it? I don't think I've ever been as grateful to see the coreopsis or the candytuft since the day I planted them, as I have been this past week!

And, my catmint is going to be good I think, too! I put it in back in the late summer as a filler and figured if it gets too wet over winter and doesn't come back, well, so much for that. THEN, my husband accidentally backed his truck over them and smooshed the biggest one down under a big rock next to our driveway...

...and would you believe it? THAT'S the biggest one coming back up! Gotta love a microclimate...

Things are popping up and out all over! This is truly a week of discovery: "oh, look, that came back too!" and "look what has flower buds this year - yippee!"

I think the only questionable things so far would be the crinums. They seem mushy, but I'm just going to wait and find out.

It's about time to trim back 'Miss Huff'. I already trimmed 'Annabelle' (and stuck a few clippings to root). In the meantime, this extra warm weather has me out there watering a few things.

Glad to hear your things are coming back well.

Yep, its soooo exciting seeing all the new beautiful green growth on everything. I have some things I planted late last year that I didn't know whether they would come back or not and "yay" they did. Luuuuuv this time of year and so ready to see bunches of buds!! Hope everyone has a great spring!!!

Thank you all for coming. What a wonderful group we had. The final total was well over 40, more than we ever had before. Thanks to Eva and Micky everyone was able to park. These two gals were my lifesavers. They parked you, told you what to do and let me have the fun stuff to do.I couldn't have managed the crowd without them. Some of you complimented me on being so well organized. Well unfortunately not organized enough. I forgot to put the iced tea and lemonade that someone brought out on the food table and didn't find it in the refrigerator until the next day. Blake ,I think you were the one who brought the lemonade. I wish you had poked me in the ribs and asked me where it was. Next time I will make a list of what everyone brings and will make sure it gets out on the food table.All the food you guys brought was delicious. As you may have noticed there were very few left-overs. Also I was very happy that all of the plants that you guys brought and that I dug from my garden found new homes. Usually many plants are left over but this year we had a lot of "new bees" so all plants found good homes. I got some really great new plants. 2 or 3 trillium,jack in the pulpit ,catnip which my cat loves, some southwood which I had never heard of before, some yellow raspberry plants and a big bag of blue campanula. also I received some pink batchelor buttons which I planted but now can't remember where I put them. Marsha, you will have to find them for me when you return in the fall. I also received several other plants that I know I never had before but I have forgotten who gave them to me and what they were.I'm putting stakes by them and will enlist your help in identifying them in the fall. Another 2 months and we will be planning our fall swap. Until then have a great summer. annie

Thank you everyone for coming to the swap.I think everyone had a great time. I know I did. I can't believe the food you people brought. It was gourmet awesome. I hope we get recipes . Those of you who left things behind, I have put them on top of the refrigerator and you can pick them up in the fall. I was out today starting to plant all my treasures. Lisa, I have put the coral bells in a shady moist area vey near my red astilbe. I will be giving it tender loving care. I also planted my chocolate joe Pye weed in a place of honor in my garden. It is just awesome. How tickled I am, Deidre, to have this beautiful plant. I also planted dahlias, sedums,jack in the pulpits, lavender,and butter fly weed all wonderful plants I will be getting up early tomorrow to plant the rest of my treasures I put some pictures on Facebook If you are not a member you can ask to be my friend and that should get you on.

Blue Skies is a fairly new community park that's about 5-10 minutes from my house, so if you already have a route to Longmont planned out you can probably use that and just change the last few turns. The park is at the corner of Mountain Dr. and Turin Dr. in the middle of a newer neighborhood called Mountain Meadows. Skybird is right - it will probably be missing from many paper maps, but the streets are listed on Google Maps and MapQuest and most recent paper maps. The Google satellite view is outdated, but Mapquest has a more up to date aerial view that shows the park. I25 to CO 119 west (Exit 240)which is also called Ken Pratt Blvd. 119 veers south somewhere past Main Street (at the train tracks), so be sure you turn right on Nelson. Stay on that all the way past Longmont to 75th Street (It is at a stoplight just past the Seagate building). Turn left/south on 75th and then just over the top of the hill turn left on Mountain Sanitas Avenue to the end and then right on Mountain. If you miss Mount Sanitas you can also turn left about 1/2 mile later on Clover Basin and then left on Mountain. The directions I posted earlier for Bonnie will also get you there, as will her original route. PS - If you're coming up I-25 and want to avoid coming through Longmont, you can take exit #235 to CO-52 West to CO-119 North and follow Skybirds Boulder directions from there.

Ok Jo, no talk like that. It's OK to weep, but never second guess what you could have done. Remember what I said about Seasons - "here for a reason and only for a season". Your situation is different now that he's not here. When he was here, the evironment was different. So many factors play into what we do and cannot do - even what we are willing to, or not to do. So you do what you can when you can, but it's not up to us when our time here is over. Your heart is still pretty heavy 'cause it hasn't been that long for you. So you are still going through all of those crazy mixed emotions. It's been almost 14 years for me with my daughter and everyday I still wonder whether I made the right choice to disconnect everything. But, I can't dwell on that because I will NEVER know if that was the right thing to do. I can't second guess that. I can't second guess about whether I was a good "mommy". I did the best I knew with the knowledge I had at the time. The same as you with your hubby. I'm not fussing - believe me. And, I don't mean to use this thread to stand on my soapbox about this. I just don't want you to ever second guess what you did or did not do. You did whatever you could at, and for the time. God knows your heart and that's what counts. If you couldn't do better, he knew that too and stepped in to help. So, don't be so hard on yourself - you didn't make the illness and you surely couln't make it go away. Just remember the good times, no matter how far away they seem. Keep your chin up - and now give me a smile... luv ya kid!! gng

esh -- Yes, I ACTUALLY took some water out to a couple of things this week too! And, I didn't mind! Hahaha... (Funny how things change, huh?) Good luck with the crinums...I hope they didn't rot...that's what I was concerned about with the items I mentioned. A couple of smaller plants did rot, I can't lie...but most everything else seems almost desperate to come up!

prettypetals -- I love the way spring LOOKS, but have allergies so I usually hate the way it FEELS. But, this year, I even welcome the itchy eyes...bring it on!!!

My nose is so stuffy, it's ridiculous! I am really sensitive to leaf mold, so the fall is tough. But guess what I've been out doing? I ran out of compost..... I have all my "green" kitchen waste, but no more "brown" like leaves.

I've been out in the minivan, running around the neighborhood and scavenging people's bags of leaves out by the curb. I got caught twice, and had to explain that I'm not a weirdo -- or rather, that I AM a weirdo -- just a compost-making weirdo.

I've been out with the mower, chopping the leaves up -- 8 giant bags so far. My sinuses are a wreck, but I have lots of fluffy brown stuff in the compost bin and now some free leaf mulch for the flower beds!!!!!!!

Gardeners are strange, sometimes!!!!!!!!! :)

Yes, the crinums are coming back. Some are coming out from the sides and the smaller ones are coming out of the top. Good news!

Apparently, I planted some African daisies last year... Do I remember this? Not really, but that's what I THINK these are, that are coming up in a pot I had literally THROWN OUT next to my garbage can, and it just hadn't made it to the curb yet.

Crazy. I hope they were purple ones.
