rain barrells?

I'm committed to using less water, so I'm headed to the county's rain barrell workshop this weekend, where I will get one, or if I'm lucky, two rain barrells, for pretty cheap, $45 a piece.

So, tell me your horror stories, help me prevent them. I have a one-story house with gutters in several places that I think will work well with rain barrells, because they are out of the way, with space for a big barrell, and near areas that I water. And with the rain we got just a week ago, it seems I could be irrigating my suddenly thirsty tomatoes this week. (don't even ask why my tomatoes are finally producing, weird winter)

Am I dreaming? This all seems so simple. Anyone got advice? I'm a little bit handy with a hack saw or a drill, but not much.
