The Wonders of Wednesday (many pics)

Is there anything else in the garden that can give you so much excitement so many days in a row? Lots of clumps and several new faces made Wednesday's garden walk just fantastic.

Here are some of the wonderful things that I found:

BLUEBERRY SUNDAE and JERSEY SPIDER

BUCKING BRONCO II

BURGANDY SISTER

CAREY QUINN was in fine form with TUSCAWILLA TIGRESS adding a contrast in color

GIFT FROM HEAVEN is in my top 10

LARRY GRACE--I just couldn't stop fawning over this one...it was stunning

LEE PICKLES was very colorful

MOUNTAIN SHADOW TO SIR WITH LOVE --my own seedling in memory of my father. I was taking pictures in the evening so didn't get to catch the diamond dusting or glittering gold edge, but it was still lovely.

PAT GARRITY...I got this one as a bonus two years ago, and although I would never have chosen it, it is an absolutely fabulous plant and a wonderful performer and I love it.

SMOKEY MOUNTAIN AUTUMN--It's color is just amazing!

TROOPER--this one is just huge!

And I will end with my FFO on WISPY RAYS...I can tell I will really like this one!

Oh, and I did too...love your daylily in memory of your Dad, it's a beauty.
Your photo of Pat Garrity with the yellow and orange lilies is just fabulous, but I enjoyed each and every photo. Thanks for sharing them.

Thanks Rita, you have so many lovelies you caost me money every year when I see another one I just "have to have". Bear Claws is such an unusual daylily...very large with heavy substance, saturated color, ruffled edges and a shiny appearance. Actually, Jean, we do have racoons on occasion. They have gotten into the cat food and eaten it, but not the blueberries ....so far. However, we don't have much of a deer problem. Thanks Nancy. I do like all of the ones you mentioned. Val, Island Time is so much taller than my other daylilies that I have actually taken pictures of ones right next to it and not nopticed it was blooming before. Thank you all for looking and commenting. Debra, I have picked about 6 quarts so far...I do not understand why it is, but picking blueberries gives me a lot of trouble with the hip I injured...I can;t leave them there to waste though.

Thanks all for the comments. Well, the foliage is really turning ugly on some of the plants. I want to give them all a haircut but why waste my time when the foliage will soon be dying back anyway. I think all the extra rain we've gotten coupled with the cooler temps somehow is keeping the garden blooms going. I'll take whatever mother nature decides on - with respect to blooms ;-). Julia

Debra, I made a bed for the iris just across from the row that now has daylilies. It will be the only remaining iris bed of three after this year. Iris cannot be mulched and the continuous weeding gets to be too much. I will be moving a few of the iris to other places in the garden, in fact, I have already done that to an extent. My gardens change over time, and probably will from now on. Brad, those stinking violets are really persistent, aren't they? I have managed to greatly decrease their numbers, but have to remember to get after every one to avoid seed throwing. Not likely, Kate. I can't get my own finished for the frequent rains which the flowers love, but so do the weeds. Thank you all for the nice comments. Kate and I exchanged a message earlier about this season being so :bloomiferous, but over sooner than usual. I have enjoyed all the clumps this year...spoiled I suspect. kay

There are even a few multis now, yes, Moonlit Masquerade did get moved last year and now it has bloomed. I moved several others last year hoping to improve their areas Precious Liberty was new last year. The hybridizer was from China (thus the name. While it bloomed last year most of the blooms were quite splotchy. This year, so far, they are not splotchy. Free China was another of his beauties. Marseilles Watercolor is a good plant that usually reblooms. Half Moon Key is another really good plnat that just blooms anywhere you plant it. This particular one was dug up and plopped next to the greehouse where it planted itself and has already bloomed while the one in a very good part of the garden has not yet bloomed...who knows why? kay

Wow, you have some real beauties.GIFT FROM HEAVEN is gorgeous,and I love LARRY GRACE and LEE PICKLES, but my favorites are your seedling and TROOPER. I injoyed all your photos.

I surely did enjoy walking with you through your garden. I can only imagine the sights in person. Gift from Heaven is a stunner with that amazing eye. I loved your seedling - what is the parentage on it? Wispy Rays is one of my favorites and never has a bad bloom. The creeping jenny underneath it is a great color combo with WR.

You sure did have some nice daylilies blooming in the garden on Wednesday. I love the color and form on BURGANDY SISTER and I love your clump shot right after it.

I wanted to comment that my LEE PICKLES does not look exactly like your LEE PICKLES. Yours has that nice warm orange eye in the middle. Not mine. I have MINSTRALS FIRE and LEE PICKLES both and they look so similiar that I would never darn put them side by side.

I ditto on Gift From Heaven, awesome! I would recheck your tags on Blueberry Sundae though, because that is definitely not it. BS is white with a purple eye and edge. Keep the pictures coming!

Just gorgeous photos! I think I am going to have to put Lee Pickles on my list. That clump shot of Carey Quinn is stunning:)

Very nice! Pat Garrity does look fantastic with those asiatics. All your blooms are nice. But I have to agree with growgirl, the daylily you have as Blueberry Sundae isn't it. I have BS and it is as she says it is.

Wonderful photos. I can't pick a favorite but my eye was certainly drawn to GIFT FROM HEAVEN. What a stunning eye on that one.

There's lots to pick from here, but you get a big "wow" for BURGUNDY SISTER -- I've never heard of that one.

SMOKEY MOUNTAIN AUTUMN also looks stunning.

Ann, The parentage on Dad's daylily is AWAKENING X SPACECOAST SEEDLING. It is only three years old, but is a stunner at 36" with 6" blooms.

Growgirl and Karen, You are probably right about BLUEBERRY SUNDAE, but then it changes to a NOID as that is what I purchased it as. It was one of my earlier DL purchases and I made the mistake of ordering a couple from the Spring Hill catalogue (this was before there were so many wonderful options on line!). It took five years for it to even bloom for me, so when it finally did, I had forgotten what it was supposed to look like :).

Rita, I was surprised when you had mentioned Lee Pickles being on your shovel prune list because I love the color of mine. You had compared it to Wisest of Wizards in one post, and in my garden the two are nothing alike...LP is full of color, while WOW is more pastel (I also remember that your WOW had way more color than mine does). I will agree that it is not an agressive grower however, so if your space is limited like yours is, I can still see it heading out the door, even with the beautiful blooms it has given me.

Judy, I got Gift From Heaven at Maryott's several years ago. I looked last year when people admired my posts, and they no longer had it listed.

Chris, Burgandy Sister is not listed in the AHS database, but that is what it was sold to my Mom as 15 years ago, so Burgandy Sister is what it is in my garden. It is a division of hers that is new in my garden this year, but it is just a stunning daylily...I would say 6"...and it is a bloom machine. The clump of it is eyepopping!
