Ask your neighbor with the hydrangea to hang in there. Mine are starting to show tiny buds along most of their branches.

My damaged trees and shrubs are leafing out too, I'm going to give them a couple more weeks before I go at them with pruner in hand. Give Mother Nature a chance.

There was one Hydrangea mac in my garden that had blooms when the freezing temps came. The top half of that one is now black, including the blooms. Numerous macs were unaffected and have flower buds that will be fully open within a couple of weeks or so. Some Azaleas are still blooming and the Satsuki's are just starting their turn. Some of the oldest Camellias continue to produce more blooms.
The focal plant in the garden right now is a 5 year old, cutting grown Rhododendron chapmanii covered in flowers! Since it is somewhat out of it's element, I didn't expect to see any this year.
Magnolia x 'Elizabeth' is still covered in a black shroud and no sign yet of new growth. Too large (25+ft.) to remove the dead foliage.
Considering the extensive damage reported by some gardeners in this area, I consider myself extremely fortunate.

I noticed some green popping up under my skeletal looking hydrangeas, so I cut them back. There are some green 'buds' on the older stems, but I believe those are leaf buds. But we will see. At least they are not dead!

Some of my crepe mytrles are getting new buds. I've seen some people cut them to the ground, but I don't think that is necessary.

My lone rhodo was virtually unaffected by the freeze. It's in the back, up against the house so was probably kept warm. It has vibrant pink buds that turn to white blooms. So delicate. And my columbine (pink and yellow)bloomed too! So I have that.

The roses are perking up, should have some blooms soon. The only real disappointment was my pink QE climber that normally only blooms in spring. I lost 90% of the spring flush. It's getting new growth, but not sure they will be buds.

I see buds too! Stuff that looked dead is coming back to life. I have tiny leaves on trees, but none on the hydrangeas yet.

Best of all, my roses are blooming now. Some of the buds must have made it through the cold snap.

I can't believe anyone would cut a crepe myrtle to the ground! That takes crepe murder to a whole new level. Still nothing on my daisy gardenias. I haven't seen any growth on my lorapetalums either but I haven't checked in a couple of days. I think I am going to give them a fairly hard prune anyway. They were looking rather gangly.
