Beautiful gardens! Trumpet vines can sure get out of hand, we have one growing up an old tree, and the trunk of it is as thick as my arm!! We have red, your yellow is pretty! What is the daylily in third pic, beside the garden ornament??

That's the last bloom of Wispy Rays (love that daylily).

The trumpet vine was about 2-inches tall when I planted it about six years ago. I knew it could leap tall buildings, etc., but I wanted a vine to hide the fence. Another sign of an impatient gardener . . .

Prune the trumpet vines at the same time you prune summer blooming clematis. Here ( we're warmer than you) that is done in late Feb. For you, I'm guessing Mid-late March? Prune severely. I cut back summer blooming clematis like 'Jackman' or 'Polish Spirit' to about a foot tall( and then they grow 15-20' or more in the season. For the spring blooming clematis (just as an FYI)prune those either very lightly or not at all, as they bloom on old wood. Any that bloom on new wood can be cut way back and SHOULD be pruned to keep them vigorous.

Thank you, Linda and CTC. The brick paths are a favorite part of the garden for me. We took out our swimming pool this year, so we have a lot more paths to do. I'm lecturing myself not to add another daylily bed because I can't keep up with the weeding.

Thanks, Floota, for the pruning advice. Pruning clematis has always been a puzzle, since I can't always tell whether flowers are blooming on new or old wood. I do grow Jackmani and others, although I never knew when to prune them. General Sikorski is my favorite (never pruned it), but I had to move it and never saw a bloom this year.

Catastrophe Waitress has terrific branching; I can see why you like that one. I don't really see any connection to the name. Is the segment arrangement a bit unruly?

Mantis, this one arrived as a single fan in 2009 and has increased to six fans. The original fan has seven branches and newer fans have around four. As far as I know, the name comes from the title of a song. I wouldn't call the segment arrangement unruly, although it's not perfectly symmetrical or round. The petal ends tend to flare, but they're nicely recurved to show the watermark. I don't have a single complaint about this cultivar.

Your daylilies are beautiful! My favorite daylily picture is the one of Two Sues. CAtastrophe is lovely. Your garden is lovely, I really like your phlox.

What a beautiful garden. I know you always show closeups of your beautiful blooms but I am really glad to see the garden shots. The brick paths just really make it so inviting to wanter thru and all the beds are filled with glorious color. I bet that old shed comes in very handy as a potting shed and I love your yellow trumpet vine. All my gardening junk is stored in my one car detached garage. No cars have been able to fit in there for years.

TWO SUES is my favorite daylilily today but I can pick any of the garden shots. I love them!

Your garden is lovely! I love reds and rich colors in daylilies (an iris) so I really like all of them Enchanting Esmerelda is beautiful, but Etosha Flame is my favorite.
I really like all of the different flowers blooming together. Beautiful garden.

I only asked whether the segment arrangement was "unruly" in an attempt to determine why Hanson would have chosen this name. A couple of the blossoms seem to have most segments recurved and one flaring. Hanson's names are usually unorthodox, but they have some connection to the nature of the flower. In this case, the connection is not immediately apparent to me.

First of all I love the brick path!! And the gate or fence.
I also noticed that Wispy Rays. Beautiful garden shots! And all daylilies are so pretty, can't choose a favorite.

Your gardens are beautiful. I have to pick CATASTROPHE WAITRESS as a favorite just because I like the name so much. It makes me laugh.

Beautiful garden pictures. My very favorite is the view through the gate showing the flowers and the brick pathways--just lovely. My favorite of the daylilies is Catastrophe Waitress, but I like them all. You seem to like watermarks as much as I do.

Debra, the chicken coop/potting shed has been very handy, if only to store all the garden miscellania I've acquired over the years. I could outfit 12 houses with all the pots in there.
