Seed Swap: Pansyface & Pat_Tea

I was able to get most of the seeds swapped last weekend, but there is still a bunch to be done. Plus stamping, addressing, and packing the envelopes.

Panysface: You have seeds earmarked for hedgwytch and Barbamanaan. Do you have real names associated with the screen names? Not many put their online names on their seeds or envelopes, so I have no way of knowing who these seeds should go to.

Pat_Tea: As organized as I am, there are two Patties in the swap this year and I can't keep straight who is who. Edna earmarked some seeds for you and I want to make sure they get to you.

Could both of you email me through my contact page on my website and let me know who these seeds should go to! I don't think the contact section of GW is working, so you'll have to use that link.

I've been anxious to know how your doing and boy am I happy you've survived this seed swap :-)

We are pushing the limits of good sense here in north Texas planting out our tomato transplants last Sunday. (Surely these plants will be 'blessed' because we put them in on Sunday????) They certainly enjoyed the multi-inch rain on Tuesday and the mild temps since. One of our first projects was to re-do the small water feature near the back porch. The old one developed a leak and had to be replaced. The new container is in and the fountain is splashing merrily. It needs the rocks fussed with and fresh mulch, but it sounds and looks good. We've scraped up the old mulch path in the white garden....ummmmmmm good mulch. And replaced with fresh pine bark nuggets. The swing in that garden got stripped and repainted as well. Today I put in a few white petunias and the area looks so good. We sprayed our home-made bunny-be-gone on some potential munchies....now the new growth on the daylilies will last longer than a day. Every time I go outside I want to take photos of the red tulips in the front yard. I've already taken photos, but the flowers are so bright and fresh, I want to take more. When I first came to Garden Web, I was a bit apprehensive as I had heard about how snobbish, and unkind the forums were. Some forums are snobbish and unkind, but not this forum. This is a wonderful place to visit everyday. Oh it IS fun, trust me. But our house is a disaster area right now! I usually try to stay on top of these packages, but so many came in on Monday that I'm quite far behind now. I have envelopes stacked up in the kitchen, a pile in the living room, another pile in the spare bedroom. Yikes! Amanda, I know yours came in because I just went through them yesterday. Planning my cottage garden

I use roses as bones in the garden (with our winters, I can't even open the gates in wintertime, so winter enjoyment isn't high up on my list). I also use Bridal Wreath Spirea and have added a couple Weigelas (Wine and Roses - dark foliage, pink flowers in Spring), an Azalea and 2 Ninebarks. Also a pear tree. I love Clematis planted with Roses, to me that looks very cottagey. I agree with all flower suggestions, I love the delphiniums, lupines, phlox and hollyhocks the most probably. I also plant lots of Sunflowers each year - fall colour, good for birds, and there are so many different ones that you can get a real variety. I tried Heather and Lavender actually. Lavenders struggle in our winters but will probably do fine for you. Heathers, I have always had trouble with, and I'm not sure why. They were some of the first plants I bought, like 6 years ago. Most have died, some are still alive but haven't grown AT ALL in all those years. I know they need a bit of an acidic soil, which makes them hard to place in a cottage garden I think, unless you have a grouping of flowers that all has the same requirements. I don't want to hijack the thread at all, but heathers can be so beautiful, how would one grow them successfully in a cottage garden?

Tracy, your the only person I know that can make clutter look so organized and clean. Give your DH our sincere thanks for bearing through this. Thank God for football season, huh?

I didn't know you left your job. That took great courage and good for you! You have a great amount of talent and integrity. New doors are just waiting to open for you.

Tracy, That is so different that what I imagined! Much cleaner to be honest. I am unhappy I couldn't recognise my own envelope from the group on the sofe. Reminds me of babies in the nursery at the hospital, all lined up. After working so hard, you'd think I'd at least recognise my own baby! LOL!

What a job!!!!! I admire your work and patience for this, the salary is not nearly enough! Your kitchen is warm and inviting by the way! Looks like a nice place to sit down for coffee....that is if there were not seeds everywhere :)

Edna: Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. It was a difficult decision to leave my job because I had nothing else lined up. That's not to say I wasn't looking, but pickings are slim around here. It was really Mike who convinced me to leave, he's been my rock through all of this. Luckily I'm doing some temp work through the holidays. But after that, who knows.

Lime & Keesha: Yes, that's my one downfall- I'm an organizing nut. It was hard to organize this year with so many seeds, but I knew I'd find a way.

Even though I did not participate this year, I want to say that you have done a fantastic job.

I also love your kitchen. Very comforting looking.

Your DH is a sweetheart and it is great when our DH's are our rocks.

The right job is out there for you and will come to you when the time is right.
