Has the gardening bug bit you yet?

What flowers/plants are you buying this year? Is the potential for drought/watering restriction a factor in your buying decisions?

The garden catalogs have arrived and as soon as I opened them I got a bad case of the gardening bug and immediately gave up my New Year's resolution to resist buying any new plants. I am proud of myself though, I am keeping the drought and water restrictions in mind.

There are many beautiful plants I'd like to try, but the risk of losing them to lack of rain weighs heavily on my mind (and pocketbook) so I am cutting back on experimenting and focusing more on additional varieties of the plants that did well in the drought, however come rain or bad drought I'm trying the following plants.

Gloriosa Irish Eyes

Karl Foster ornamental grass

Double cherry profusion zinnia

the new neon yellow drawf zinnia offered exclusively by Burpee

Russian Sage Little Spire

Caryopteris Petit Bleu

and I'm going to give the variegated poke salad a try again, this time from seed.

Happy gardening to all, here's hoping the summer of 2008 never sees temps in the 3 digits, rarely in the 90's and we get enough rain to make our blossoms bloom.
