Need advice on an order, please.

Hi out there -

3 things to ask tonight:

1) Does anyone have opinions about Eclectic Gardens? They have several from my list at far cheaper price than Oakes.

2) Also -

I'm in Columbus, OH and they're in Oregon -- does that kind of climate/zone difference mean I shouldn't order from them?

3) AND..am having a hard time finding these. Any ideas where I can buy them?

Hi abbiejan,
I have ordered from several places this year, and twice from Eclectic Gardens. If I could go back and do it all over, I would order only from them.
The owner, Julie , is great to work with. She communicates well, sends very generous bonuses, and the plants were very healthy and strong. They smelled so good when they arrived, and the root systems were terrific. All are growing well.
My only regret is that I ordered from anywhere else. If I can fit in any more, I will most definitly order from them.

I am in Washington, so my climate is very similar to Oregon. When I add new daylilies to my wish list, I often check the AHS popularity polls and different awards to see how they grow in my area.

Good luck, if you choose to order from Eclectic, I know you won't be disappointed.

Hi all, I'm getting ready to add to a plant order my daughter-in-law is making tomorrow and I need some advice on the following: 1. Would Vaccinium macrocarpus or Viola lanceolata be too invasive in a whiskey barrel bog (main plantings will be pitcher plants, these would be for around the edges) 2. Is it need or wanted to add live Sphagnum Moss to the garden. I have a layer of long fibered, dried moss (kept moist now) on the top. 3. Are other mosses such as bog clubmoss advisable? I don't want to over plant the pot, I'm already planning on pitchers in the middle and two sundews on the side..BUT i haven't ordered the sundews yet so if that would be too much please let me know. Again, this is a whiskey barrel container, unlined and planted with sand, then sand and peat mixed then pure peat topped by the long fibered dried moss in zone 7 Thank you judy

Kristine ~ I just received 32 Miscanthus xgiganteus. I'll plant them this week. Having planted Miscanthus xgiganteus during the same time period and had 100% success, have no fear of planting during the "summer". Plan "B" will be fine. Enjoy your vacation and you will find your plants ready to be replanted when you return. If you were closer, I'd volunteer to give your plants a drink while you are gone. One thing to remember - Make sure you give the xgiganteus room to grow. Mine reach over 10 feet and that's before they flower. The deer don't even try to go through the xgiganteus. In addition, we will no longer recommend in our literature that Rectified and Non-Rectified large format rectangle sizes (Ex: 12" x 24") can be installed in a brickwork or running bond pattern where the overlap is 50% [normal brick joint]. The reason for this is that the allowable warpage for a tile based on ANSI specifications can create an installation issue when large format rectangular tiles are installed in a brickwork/running bond pattern. This allowable warpage can create a scenario where lippage is inevitable given the overlapping pattern. To mitigate this effect, Dal-Tile will be removing the brickwork pattern from our catalogs and literature. This will be replaced by a new pattern that will be referred to as a "Staggered" brickwork pattern where the overlap does not exceed 33%, and the grout joint width must be a minimum of 3/16".

Thanks for all the input so far! Palimpset - same as rhome410, the main reason for the mess is that the clean dishes haven't been put away, or the DW is running...there always seems to be at least 1 or 2 cups left out...I guess I should just wash them by hand and be done, but we don't:) I understand all of the arguments for the flat island, and will be doing some more reading on that, but DH argument is that the kids are only little for so long, then we'll have teenagers eating & hanging out in the kitchen...I'm hoping it'll get used for everyday breakfast/lunch on wknds. Dinner will be at the table! To the left of the fridge right now is a nice sized window, which will eventually be french doors to a deck. We thought about the U, but it does get too cramped cause that window cannot be moved (concrete wall construction - $$$ to move windows!). The room opens to dining area then family room (all one big space). Palimpset - I'm glad to hear you say keep the fridge where it's at - I'm really struggling with that cause it would make for a ton of space around the stove for prep, it also moves the fridge out of the triangle (I know, old concept, but it works for our little kitchen right now!) Anyone have a single level island and hate it/wished they had double? THANKS!

Queen Cerise is available at Quarles Daylilies. I don't have any experience ordering from them.

Dave's Gardens has the Garden Watchdog and Tinker's Sandi has a recommended list of sources. Eclectic gets a star on Watchdog.
Be sure and compare per fan prices. Some companies price per single fan while others price per double fan.
