Need suggestions... DH knows what he likes!

Alabama Jubilee bloomed today and DH said, "Now that's a flower!" Great, now I know what he likes. Whereas I'm partial to recurved petals he isn't and he likes mainly solid, bright colors!

so far, I've found Sultan's Fury that I will order. Can you think of any others that are like this? (5" or more, mainly solid colored and bright, not recurved or spiders)

How about Red Volunteer? I don't grow it myself, but I've heard lots of good things about it. It won the Lenington All American Award in 2004. Maybe he'd also like some of the other recent winners too like Mary's Gold or Bela Lugosi.

Rocket City! Inexpensive, vigorous and incredibly eye-catching.

Mauna Loa is supposed to be amazing as well, although mine is new and hasn't bloomed yet so I can't vouch for it personally.

I'm also especially fond of male marmalaids. I've owned 3 in my lifetime. Psycho - Well, the name explains it. He was far from mild-manered, but I loved him. K.C. Farnsworth - He was a lazy spoiled brat, but fairly mild manered. He was my baby when I was growing up. I got him the day that Psycho died. I was 10 and wanted to "replace" the kitty that had just died. Well, we had K.C. until I was in my first semester of college. We had to put him down. He had seizures for about 5 years and they just kept getting worse and worse and he was getting weaker and weaker. :-( Then, a few months after I moved out on my own, my mom called one night and said, "Your daddy wanted me to call you and tell you that you need to come and get this kitten that Mrs. Cooper (old neighbor lady) found in her yard." And the rest is history. The Dude is now around 11 years old, and totally an old grump. He's lived with my parents for about the past 8.5 years, as Keith is allergic to cats. So, he's a block away and lives with his "uncles" Stanley (HUGE black and white fatty), Henry (HUGE gray tabby fatty) and The Beast (young, annoying brat) LOL The Dude hates them all, except Stanley. Stanley is "special" and so The Dude tolerates him.

help- if dh can install regular d/w, can he install dishdrawers?

Installation instructions for both F&P and KA are available for download (.pdf) on their respective web sites. Hubby can read through the instructions before you buy the appliance. That being said, installation is no more tricky than a traditional dishwasher.

I don't understand all the tv technology but I can tell you what works for us. TIVO. We have two of them, one for me and one for him. We have a large tv in the living room and if we don't want to watch the same show (kitchen and decorating, him shoot em ups), he sets the tv to" picture in picture", meaning we get 1/2 a screen of my show and 1/2 for him. I have headphones that are wireless so I can hear my show and sit right next to him on the couch, and he listens to his. I can also walk into the kitchen with my headphones and watch what is on my TIVO. Tivo lets you record like a vcr on a hard drive inside the tv, and you can watch whenever you want. That's what works for us, I hope that makes sense. I'm sure it's frustrating but I do agree, having him want to be around you is more important than ANY tv show. Enjoy.

Congrats to you all, Love! I'll never forget the day DH was awarded custody after a 1.5 year battle- just a total sense of disbelief, relief, shock . . .and even a little fear. Saying that, and not meaning to rain at all on your parade, I want to offer warning. Be very careful of the way mom is going to spin this to SS. My SD's mom told her things like we were stealing her, she'd never see mom again, etc. She told SD that is she told anyone about the things that happened there they would take mommy away and so on. We were very lucky that when we told SD that wasn't true she believed us and didn't act out, but I know we were lucky. Be aware of SS's moods and such for a little - look for clues that he might be getting bad info. Celebrate tonight!!

I'm confused. My wife tells me that I don't know what I like until she tells me. Is this wrong?

Anyway she says that I like Becky Lynn, Chicago Ruby, Golden Hibiscus, Listen to your Heart and Winton. Also I second Juliet pick of Bela Lugosi and Red Volunteer.

Ones my husband has commented on (and he could normally not give 2 figs about flowers) are:

Rocket city - big vibrant orange
Bela Lugosi - big dark purple with a yellow throat
Manly-man daylilies as you might call them.

and if I labelled this one correctly:

Mary's gold - big shocking gold yellow

The ones I have blooming now that hubby notices with favor are: Wild One, Arriba, Rodeo Cowboy, Illini Jackpot which is just starting, Chicago Sunrise, Hemlock, Heron, Baji, Fooled Me, Chicago Arnie's Choice, Atlanta Moonlight, Jungle Beauty. He also likes Ruby Spider which is almost finished and he's not a big spider guy either. All of these are older and inexpensive.
