40 plus jasmine sambac grand duke flower not maturing?
Comments (10)they are all doing o.k. someone in garden web suggested that it was just waiting for a warm spell 80's and up.. he or she was exactly right.. the immature buds suddenly turn into a very fragrant flower... i have around 5 grand duke that was originaly in a 1 gallon container only 1 died during the rainy winter... they grow really slow.. they are all grown in containers. they are now transfered to 5 gallon pots... last year i couldnt decide if im willing to pay $80 for a 7 ft grand duke on a 9 gallon pot.. now that its giving me flowers everyday the money spent is well worth it.. there are some medium size available at our local nursery green thumb in canoga park for $22 4 ft. skinny plant.. ill see if i can post a pic of it...See Morejasmine sambac-- salt problems?
Comments (7)I would love to know the answer to that question too, schiang68. I bought Schultz Bloom Plus 10-54-10, with chelated iron, managnese and zinc and have been using that. So far so good, but then again I've only been using it for almost 1 month. Will this be suitable for my sambacs? I have Maid of Orleans, Confederate(although not a sambac) and Belle of India. Comments (66)Thanks Kemistry. My mother had been doing it that way but I was not sure like some say, you have to make sharp snips so that there's no room for insects to seep in and scissors don't make sharp cuts sometimes if the stem is sturdy. But if it's safe I am sure it's the best and most economical way. Did you mean to say that I can root a cutting right away without using any hormones? If it's that simple it's great since I can offer some to my friend who went crazy when she saw my flowers. Lastly, Will I need to keep the cutting in water overnight before I root it the next day? Thanks once again, SR...See MoreNight blooming jasmine leaves turned yellow and dropped
Comments (8)They are usually pretty carefree plants. They do like humidity and will sometimes drop leaves if it is really dry like in a desert climate. If the soil is too wet (usually because the soil isn't draining properly) or too dry then they can drop leaves. Also, whitefly is sometimes a problem for smaller plants. Here, mine get up to the roof line of the house over a summer so insects are trivial problems to the large plants. In the winter, they die to the ground once it freezes hard. I pretty much water them a few times a week here and forget about them and they bloom in flushes summer through whenever it freezes here (usually late Nov). They do love fertilizer. I have them in full sun and semi sandy soil. They root very easily from cuttings. I just get a 1 gallon pot and fill with potting soil and take several cuttings about 8 inches long. I use a powdered rooting hormone but probably not necessary. I have also stuck cuttings straight into the ground without rooting hormone and kept them watered and they rooted. ~SJN...See Morealfred_floro
