Man, if I had known row covers would help with mites, I would have had them at the old house! I did not see much sign of them here this summer, so maybe that's one I won't have to worry about. Glib, I think I'm using the term "row cover" more generally than you; your tulle and hoop house probably would both come under my idea of "row cover". I have never yet put any sort of barrier over my veggie plants, but it has become clear that I must. Especially if I wish to work in a larger scale, to help cut down on work (like constantly picking off looper and eggs from cabbage). I think maybe in the spring a floating row cover might be a good idea, maybe a little extra heat, but also to help keep the birds from destroying tender seedlings.

Andrizzle, Though this is fraught with perilous pratfalls, I'll also suggest to you that you do some searching on this subject - as you yourself acknowledge, your request is redundant and, given that this subject has been written on in literally hundreds of different posts, it's not too much to ask, IMO, that you do some searching at the C&S forum. Use 'jade' or 'Crassula ovata' as the search criteria and take a look at the FAQ. I hope my posting here isn't offensive to you, but lots of us have spent lots of time writing the same advice over and again, and I don't think it's too much to ask to do some research on a plant that probably occupies folks' inquiries here a large percentage of the time. I hope I've learned from my last encounter suggesting that you have a few looks, and again, I'm not intending to be rude in this note (I'm naturally that way, btw) but all of what you wish to know is already here and just a search or two away. It's been written on extensively, thoroughly and knowledgeably and might be the single greatest mine of Crassula ovata wisdom in this galaxy. BTW #2, all of you Crassula ovata sports, hybrids and forms can use the same care. Most of what I see in your plants that can be improved is an increase in light - as much as possible, gradually.

Boy half a zone difference make you guys so far ahead ~ just as George (ego45) reminded me! BB just flashed her virginal gown yesterday ~ 1 so far! QF opened tons on Pops' Day ~ so thrilled & tho both Orig ES did each a quick one, our gloomy/rainy/storm days interrupted the momentum ~ got everyone in a napsy mood & clusters are still just that! Today sun did show up ~ hopefully shake everyone up! Oh but Blue Frost Serrata even in his *dip 'n dot* stage is already giving hints on the trio of colors ~ blue, lavender, pinks & loaded! T&S1 ~ that came frost bitten, is the most advanced w/ all sorts of new canes & clusters - ready to flash soon ~ in the most ideal site, the hole I prep'd last Fall. I clipped all the blooms she came in to speed up these new ones! T&S2 & T&S3 are doing fine w/ new canes & new cluster finials tho nowhere close to T&S1's #s Luis - to answer our musings on extra sun exposure ~ definitely affects bloom colors IMO based on observations on these 3 T&S planted in 3 diff exposures ~ then again I'm also considering soil diff in their 3 sites! You just might want to think about installing plenty of hand-rails, and do be sure you wear your slip-proof booties in there at all times. OR, you could use honed stone intead of polished. As for the booties, you'd be better off in bare feet. That being said, I HAVE installed plenty of polished marble bathroom floors, as well. That includes one in statuary white I had in my last house, and never had a problem with slipping.
