Haven't posted lately...how bout some clumps (pix)

I haven't had time to post lately...I've barely had time to view everyones gorgeous photos, but I've finally caught up on my editing and so I'll post a few for your enjoyment tonight. I'll start off with some clumps and multiples from the past few days.

Siloam Little Girl and a couple of her friends, Silome June Bug, and Roswitha peeking in from behind.

San Luis Regal looking kind of regal! :)

Requiem For Diana brought along a couple of her pals too. That purple is Billy Stennet, and the other one is Intricate Eyes.

I've posted a clump shot of Pocket Change before, but just had to show you this one. Doesn't it look like it should bloom at Christmas? LOL

Nickey Baby is a pretty little one.

Let It Rip, looks like they're fighting for front row position to be photographed, don't they?

Denver Scott is very new to my garden, but has been blooming like crazy and I love it. The blooms are huge too.

Breakfast At Tiffany's is all pretty and pink.

This one shouts at you from across the garden, Bold Red Eyes.

And last one for this thread, a pretty pair. Beside Still Waters and King's Favor.

Everthing looks great. I like Denver Scott the best but I could have gone for Requiem For Diana as they are both great.

Flora, I thought they might be G. ikariae, when I bought those first few bulbs back in the 60's they were in a bulk bin just labeled snowdrops. I thought I was just buying the common ones, when these shiny green leaves came up the following year I thought to myself these don't look like snowdrops, good job I didn't shovel prune them LOL. When they finally bloomed I went looking trying to identify them, I thought they looked very much like the ikariae in the book Shrubs by Roger Phillips and Martyn Rix so if you think they might be too, they probably are. Glynis, this is the second H. foetidus I've had, the first one I had for 4 years and then it up and died. This one I've had for about 6 years, I haven't let it set seed maybe that's why I still have it. We'll see I want to collect seed this year, hope I don't lose it. I have another little odd ball a girlfriend grew from seed she collected, it has small green flowers and blooms a little later, could be a cross or... I moved it last year so don't think it will bloom this year. When it does I'll post a pic on the Hellebore forum, see if I can get an identification. I said I wasn't going to order any more Hellebore seed but I see Ashwood Nursery is now selling seed of their doubles, I'm weakening LOL. LOL Kathy, "Some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope" I'm going to remember that one. As far as winters go Vancouver is having the warmest winter in their recorded history so we on the island probably are too. Right now most years the ground would be frozen. Mantis and Julia - I think Skullduggery is only registered as having 15-16 buds. Mine, still in a pot, only has 6-8 buds per scape this year. I don't think I've ever had more than 15 buds per scape, and that was probably in the first year I had it. In the past, it's been a very reliable rebloomer. Being in a pot for several years, it has not multiplied very quickly. I have a lot - especially early bloomers - with very poor bud counts this year. We got NO rain to speak of in April, which is the opposite of what usually happens. I started watering my seedlings and the two beds by my seedling regularly in early May. The daylilies in those have much better bud counts than those I only watered a couple of times in May. Jean and Anika - Glitter Gal is a nice one. It is not diamond dusted. Where it glitters is the edge. It has a double edge - gold wire - that does glitter - and a fluffy white and gold edge with some tendrils and knobs. It can melt on a 95-degree day unless it's kept well-watered. It does fade somewhat, but still has a pleasant lavender color at the end of the day. It multiplies very quickly. Debra

Chris...you're gonna love BBE...it's a small one, but very pretty. Lrae...thanks, glad you enjoyed them. :) Shelly...you really need to get BBE...LOL, another one for your list!! FSA didn't have many blooms, but they sure were pretty. I'm hoping for better things from her next season. ML is so dark, even darker that my Jungle Beauty which is a nice "black" also. GG...yep BBE was my bonus from Mariettas. It's been a late bloomer for me, so maybe you'll get scapes yet on it. I envy you going to Richmond for regionals. So far, I haven't been able to make any of the DL tours. Sure would love to though. :) Marea...thanks. Lace Cookies was one of my first to bloom this season also. Since yours are just now beginning to bloom, I'll expect to see lots of beautiful photos to give me my daily "fix" since mine are winding down now. :) Betsy....Thanks, and please do post lots of photos. I hope you get tons of bloom to keep all of us southern folk happy. Julie....you've got me blushing girl. It's not my photography really. It's beautiful blooms and my camera. :) Sp. ER is a wonderful dl, and has increased very fast for me. She has really strutted her stuff this season. FSG...since this was her very first bloom season in my garden, and she's still settling in, the bud count was pretty low, but I'm expecting a greater show from her next season. ken, yes, the idea was to get larger hostas sooner, than with starters or 2-3 years old ones...The future hosta bed is an empty space now, and I thought it will be nice to have some larger plants almost right away, and if I need to add one, or two, or three, I can afford to buy smaller plants, but hosta bed will look pretty decent... -------------------------------------------------- I also bought 15 ferns from Hallson and 3 Blue Mammoth divisions from Venero, they are on their way... I bought 50 lbs of Vermicompost (spl?) to mix with the soil in hosta holes only (and handful of bone meal for each hole), and the topsoil that is currently there will be mixed with 10" of compost. And I will remove as much subsoil as I can for total of about 16" bed depth...I cannot build lasagna, the area where I plan to plant hosta is right by the chain link fence, that I share with my neighbors, so I can't go up too much, besides there is my own sidewalk and a shrub, that I do not want to remove or replant (it has attitude and grows very slowly). So, I decided to go with sort of double dig method and removing subsoil... I also bought 20 Kg of Coconut coir to hold lacking moister and to fluff the soil, and if I get lucky I plan to get 1 or 2 contractor bags of alfalfa pellets to mix with soil. Someone also told me to bury one or two large fish heads 7"-10" below the roots for better growth, but person grows roses, will it work for hosta, too? So, how does it sound? Am I all set, or I need to buy something else?

Beside Still Waters is wonderful! And I really like Denver Scott. I haven't seen that one before. More to put on the wishlist. :)

Pocket Change and Bold Red Eyes just stop you in your tracks. I especially love Pocket Change.

Let It Rip is way, way unique! That's uh...? Wow.

Thanks for the pics! Bloom shots are great but I like a bigger picture, sometimes as hard to capture as the bloom. I'll have some to share in coming days/weeks.

Vickie...don't look too closely at the foliage :) it's beginnning to look a little stressed and I don't have time to groom them by taking off the yellow and streaked leaves. LOL

Love the photos with the different shades of purple. BILLY STENNETT is in its third year here with no blooms yet. This is its final warning . . .

I like Beside Still Waters, Requiem For Diana, and Nickey Baby. I like Billy Stennet, too; but if he won't bloom for Chris, would he bloom for me?

Chris and Sharon...this is BS 3rd year in my garden also, and it's first year to bloom, but man has it ever been blooming. I figured the drought from the past 2 years probably resulted in no blooms on it until now, as it has on some other of my dl's. IMO however, BS was worth waiting for.
