Yes, unfortunately you have bought a bunch of kinds that may not make it where you are. Perhaps most of them.

bboy I clicked on the link and my comp. froze up the very sec. I clicked. Thanks anyway. I will do a search, however LSUA is further south than me and alot warmer. Ex. Alexandria, LA is only 20 miles (as the crow flies) further south than me, but they grow all kinds of palms and subtropicals, that the winter here kills. We are a few hundred feet above sea level, and it is hilly here. I am quite puzzled be the microclimate that we r in here. We are also a little cooler in the summer than Alex. Low here last winter was 8F, high was 106F.

i would suggest you start at the link .. and see if there are any other conifer peeps involved .. or if they have a conifer collection at the arb ....

i do not have a current copy of the American Conif Soc membership list.. if i did.. i would use it to contact other local peeps .... in my world .. if they list their contact info.. they should NOT mind talking to other enthusiasts ... eh??? .. a one year membership might be a good investment .... i hope you have reviewed the conifer intro at the ACS site ....

Rena - You need to visit some conifer collections in the region to see what will do well. The Atlanta Botanical Garden, some of the gardens in Texas (i.e. Stephen Austin Arboretum in Nacogdoches etc.), and Leu Gardens in Orlando, FL would be good starting points. They all have significant conifer collections. Certain genera/species do really well here - Abies firma, Araucaria angustifolia, Calocedrus (esp. the Asian species), Cedrus, Cephalotaxus, some Chamaecyparis (avoid lawsoniana - it dies quickly, but obtusa does great!) Cryptomeria, Cunninghamia, many Cupressus, most Juniperus, Keteleeria, Glyptostrobus, Metasequoia, many Pines (both native and also from Mexico), many Podocarpus, Platycladus, Pseudolarix, Sequoia, some Taxus, many Thuja. Many that won't do well include all Abies except firma, Araucaria araucana, C. lawsoniana, Cupressus from California, Larix, Microbiota, all Picea except maybe P. polita (P. torano) and possibly the Mexican species, most Tsuga - although T. chinensis does well.

There is an article coming out in the ACS Bulletin on conifers in the deep south - keep an eye out for it!

Yes, Will I did. And yes, the plants arrived in excellent health. The sellers definitely were great. So you see that in total I have no more than a few hundred dollars invested. I figured for the price what the hey! Who knows I may get lucky and most survive possibly even thrive! I am by the way an optimist at heart, I leave the pessimism for my husband lol. Thanks Ken the linked worked fine. The zoo in Alex. here has a beautiful small weeping conifer. But I have no idea what it is. Next time I go I will snap a pic. and post it. If it is happy there it should definitely be happy here.

Will I specifically wrote the seller and told him detailed info about the climate here regarding summer heat and humidity. And he wrote back stating that they would do fine here, I would think that the understock must be really good therefore giving it a good survival rate. Right?

TJ since you had no problem I tried again, same thing my comp. froze up immediately. I had to hit ctrl alt del to exit the program and close firefox and start over again. Maybe my filter? I don't know, oh well.

Well, I don't know much about understock and how it effects plants though I have heard I think that it doesn't have much effect. What I would do is keep your email receipts(and written ones if possible) and any plants that die next year, let them know(ask for a refund/replacement alternative) and remind them that they said they'd be fine.

I have purchased some plants from the same seller and was fairly happy overall. Long ago I posted a series of threads about online nursery reviews. I'll give it a bump and see if some of the newer folks find it useful.

Thanks Will! You already know that I know waaayyyy less than you! I just read a few articles about understock, I don't KNOW anything lol only surmising from what I read. As far as keeping receipts I have a file exclusively for plants (for reference). But there was a big disclaimer on plants being returned I believe it was a week or so. Live and learn, I do have a little money left in my plant budget. I would prefer to buy with a little knowledge this time around. I will post pics of my yard and garden within the next few days. BTW ur garden is beautiful!
