Got a couple of seedlings!

Everything has slowed here and some of these are repeats. But second blooms really tell you more about the plant than firsts.

This first one was posted as a first bloom and the second bloom has a split in the petal. I don't know what caused it unless it's because the petals are so wide. Ellie

The second one is my favorite. I love the soft pink color and the ruffled edge. My second favorite is the pink with teeth on the sepals. The others look good too!

AHHH. It's been too long!! I see. Thanks, Zecowsay, that's good to know. Yeah, those leaves seem to have stopped growing, and the ones coming out the middle have been very slowly but surely growing. (By slowly, I mean VERYYYYY slowly.) Anyway, AN UPDATE! There's now a SECOND orange seedling sprouting up; it looks about the same as the first seedling did in the first picture I ever posted, although one of its sprout leaves came out very tiny and mutatedish.(I SHALL NAME IT 'NEMO'.) Is it possible for a seed to contain multiple plants? Because I know for a fact that there was only a single seed planted in this pot... And what should I do with the two? Seperate them, or leave them together? Also, on a side note, I got an OttLite desk lamp. They give full spectrum lighting, don't generate a lot of heat, and I've heard they're supposed to make pretty good plant lights.(The bulb is only 9W!) So I'll put the little guy, or rather guys, underneath that for a few hours a day(or more if you think they need it, I'm not sure how much light they need) and hopefully that'll help them really take off. They haven't been growing very much at all, and I suspect it's because there just isn't much light or warmth during this time of year.

Thanks for your comments, everyone. Jan, The first unknown is not that huge, only about 7". But, if you're strapped for room You hit it right on the head. If a seedling shows a bloom exactly or mostly like another seedling from the same cross, I get rid of it. Two years ago I only planted a little less than 200 seedlings. This year I'm still struggling to get 700 seedlings in the ground. I think I've gone zonkers on dabbing pollen, so I'm taking a break from it this year. May even leave it for all of you ambitious folks, and just get back to purchasing more that I really want. Michelle, Yes, I thought the same about the darker lemon watermark (applique) on the yellow seedling. You're very sharp to catch that! Thanks Jean & Chris! Julia I don't have any kind of magic touch, it's all in the genes of the Dls. But I too, was pleased w/FD x JM6 and its rich color. Kathy, I will keep the last one for sure, and since I lost the parentage, I'll think of some cool (or hot) garden name for it. Interesting. I got a range of colors also and quite a few bumpled ones too! I can't wait to see if the bright yellow one comes back this year. It had really thick, glossy yellow leaves that were fairly round.

Nice seedlings you got. I saw the other pic also and you got good results with the crosses. Hopefully some seedlings I grew over the winter/spring this year will survive their first winter here and I can see some results (aka blooms) next summer. I can only hope they will look as good as yours ;-). Julia

I like the second one but my favorite one is the pink unknown. I think the Ida's Magic X Unknown is neat, I like that one. Marg

Some nifty seedlings here, Ellie. But first, thank you for the ID on my NOID Notta Butte.

Regarding seedling #1, I've had some just plain oddities here also this year - one with fused petals, one with only 2 petals, some that never even tried to open...

- The Motes unknown is lovely.
- The split color petal on the Ida's Magic seedling is cool.
- Teeth on sepals!

ngraham, I really like the IW X JKO too!! It has just enough frill and lace to get by but not overdone..

Marg, I am pretty sure that unknown seedling has Inherited Wealth somewhere. Either pod or pollen. It has IW traits. Also, when I first got IW, I used the pollen on everything. The Ida's Magic kid doesn't usually have the half petal white on it.

Christine, the daylily I registered last year has toothed sepal, more so than this one. It never bloomed without them. Sweet Liddy Kate if you want to look it up. AHS website. You are welcome about the ID. I wish someone could ID my noids. I use IW so much ( used too) that I knew what that one was immediatly and also Chang Dynasty since I have that one also. I have pods on that one this year!.
Weird huh! Fusions, distorts, polys , etc. Strange daylily year!
