What a difference a year makes

This is the same daylily this year and last year. Is it the weather that makes the color so different? Taken about the same time of day.

Doesn't look that different to me. I have lots of daylilies showing a big color difference from one bloom to the next and day by day. It just seems like certain ones are much more changeable that way than others.

Some of mine change from day to day depending on the weather, amount of rain, etc...

My apricot bloomed first week of April. So the peach and nectarine. I looked today the petal fell and I can see a little fruit but I think my zone 7 is warmer than your zone 5. I protected the flowers from flower rut now I have to protect the fruit. Last year the fungi was unusual I hope we will fair better this year.

I'm glad your garden is doing so well. Mine is just the opposite. We had cold temperatures and rain and overcast skies for most of April. In May we had a week of hot temperatures--too hot for the greenhouse. Then it went to rain in deluges and only the last week it has become seasonable but still cool nights with a risk of frost. My garden is 2 weeks behind. Last year was a good growing year for us even with the lack of rain in July. My mulched plants did very well because the mulch held in the moisture. So I guess it makes a difference where you are gardening. What is a good year for one may not be for another. Enjoy your gardening weather and think of others not so fortunate

I found Empress Wu at a local nursery last year for $15.99 that had 8 or 9 eyes. At that point, I don't think I had paid over $10 for a hosta, so I decided it was "too much" to pay for a Hosta and left her sitting there. After we got home, I showed my DH pictures of Empress WU and read through some posts on this form and saw what others had paid. Realzing what a good buy we had passed up, my DH grabbed his wallet and went racing back to the nursery. On the way, he called me on his cell phone, giving me minute-by-minute updates until Empress Wu was safely in his car. This was the "defining moment" that we realized we were totally hooked on hostas.

Omar, the silvery thing is one of the Mountain Mints Pyncnantheum muticum. It's very nice and does well in a monrning shade afternoon sun spot which is always hard IMO. Roselee, I got the original Tithonia at the Texas Discovery Gardens. Last year I had it and one of the cultivars and spider mites really ate up the cultivar and the specied did fine. The ones this year are from seed I collected so I could share seed again this fall. It's a heat lover so I started the seeds in the spring. I like the little pitcher clematis as well, I just hope next year it has more than three flowers! RC-as for rain it's been weird. Wet Dec-April, not a drop in May and then random pop-up showers in June. I've been lucky and been underneath several of those pop-ups. Temps are at least 10 degrees lower than last year as well.

I notice when I take pictures of the flowers, I get a much more saturated color after a rain. I think weather conditions have a lot to play, time of season, etc.

I figured it must be the weather. It's much more reddish than it's ever been before.

I noticed that my Raspberry Pixies seem to be a darker, more browned color this year. None of them have been moved to new locations, so I have to assume it's the weather. Whatever it is, I wish it would continue, as I like the color this year much more than the usual color.
