I found Empress Wu at a local nursery last year for $15.99 that had 8 or 9 eyes. At that point, I don't think I had paid over $10 for a hosta, so I decided it was "too much" to pay for a Hosta and left her sitting there. After we got home, I showed my DH pictures of Empress WU and read through some posts on this form and saw what others had paid. Realzing what a good buy we had passed up, my DH grabbed his wallet and went racing back to the nursery. On the way, he called me on his cell phone, giving me minute-by-minute updates until Empress Wu was safely in his car. This was the "defining moment" that we realized we were totally hooked on hostas.

Gesila, what a great story! I find it fun to hear about how people were bitten by the hosta bug.

I have yet to find a suitable spot for 'Empress Wu,' so I guess I'll get in on the new lower price by the time I add her to my garden. First, I have to figure out a place where she can live without being trampled and peed on by my dogs. (Most of my hostas are in the front yard for that reason, but the front beds don't have room for EW.)

Maybe one of this year's garden expenses should be a nice decorative fence...

I put in a stretch of decorative fencing from Lowes last year to keep a new puppy from running over into the neighbors front yard. You can get it in two heights of 29" and 42". It uses stakes which are easily moved. This would work for normal sized dogs but I can't use it in our dogs back yard. They weigh 150lbs each and will knock over anything that isn't set in concrete.

My youngest son and his former wife had the same kind of dog and when they went their separate ways he said he missed the dog more than her!!!!

Persephone is a Neapoiltan Mastiff who will get up to 160lbs. She is one of three. We also have a black and a blue. Plus we have a German Shepherd Dog and an English Mastiff.

The dogs killed all of the grass in the backyard and I killed almost all of the grass in the front yard. Hostas are better than grass.
