Fish emolsion/Yea or Nay???

I am curious to know is fish emulsion good to use on all houseplant and palms? Is it safe to use in conjunction with miricle gro or is that a no -no? Also how often would I use it? Does it smell like fish?

If these sound like dumb questions,please bear with me and do not stone me(I'm a newbie).

Yay. Hiya, Grice. I use fish emulsion like you would a vitamin. It's wonderful to help a limping plant, to beef up an existing beauty, and good to keep a plant healthy. It does smell rather unpleasant, so I often will take a plant outdoors, water it w/the emulsion and let it air out. That usually does the trick. I've never used it regularly on a plant, but I think it would be just fine. I would refrain from using it WITH MiracleGro, simply because it is a fertilizer, the organic alternative to the chemical MG.

No question is a dumb question!! =)

nicethyme, I'm no expert, I'm sure they will be along. but: Have you figured in your joints/ turns for head loss? I attached a calculator. Regarding the stream, I guess that depends on if the "client" wants a loud or soft sounding water fall. Regarding the pump(s) you get what you pay for. tsurumi 8pn 50pn2.75s are nice pumps; Aqua Designs is not the only source. A little shopping will bring in a lower price. Regarding out the back of the skimmer... The closer to the water source, the better suction. Then push it up the hill, settlement chamber(s), bio-filter, falls. Build in a discharge system from the SC to get rid of the crud. NOTE: every external pump (that runs before the filters) should have a leaf basket/ primer pot. homefry....It's easy to tell you are a professional, and a honest guy as well. I think your prices are more than fair. It's easy to see what kind of time and effort you put into your display, as well as your product. You will never be able to please everyone. I say as long as you have a clear conscience and your covering your bills, that's all that matters. I took some bhut jolokias to a local produce stand located at a "flea market". This is similar to an organized yard sale where people rent tables and sell whatever they please for you guys who have never heard of "flea markets". I spoke to him a few months ago and he expressed interest in selling any peppers I had left over. I had no intentions of trying to get rich, I just thought if I could pay for my soil and ferts, that would be nice. He's giving me $1.50 a lb for my habanero, chimayo, red savina, and Numex Twilight.When I took him some bhut jolokias, I suggested $1 a pod. He snorted and said he wouldn't be able to sell them for that much. I left him 18 and he said he would try to sell them 2 for $1. I don't really think he knows exactly what they are. I have more than I can use and maybe someone will be able experience something they otherwise would never have been able to. I won't find out if they sold or not until I call him on Friday. Tim

Wolf steam oven yah or nay?

I have trouble with too much steam or the water not draining away. I suddenly started going through way more water than normal and after I was done there was a big puddle on the bottom of the oven. I had my repair person out and she called Wolf twice (the same afternoon) and talked to their techs. One of them suggested I descale twice (the light saying I needed to descale was not on). I did this, but I still have the problem. I called my repair person and even sent pictures of the remaining water and she said she would contact Wolf. This was last summer and, even though I called the repair shop repeatedly, she never returned or contacted me about the problem. I probably should call Wolf directly as they have great customer service. I am a snowbird and am away from home for the winter, but expect I will have to deal with this again when I return. I just hope my warranty doesn't run out before this can be fixed.

chac_mool: I get your point and agree with you for day to day cooking. I may not have explained my point as clearly as it might have been explained. I have cooked on some older model induction stoves and cooktops before but never thought to test out this particular thing which is not about getting max power from all four burners but, rather, about simply using all four burners with largish pots. Maybe my question sounded like some of the questions we have seen here where somebody wants to ask about running all four burners wide open. Say, running four woks or four massive pots of pasta! I did not mean to ask a "max power" question. What I am trying to get is a sense of is the stove's ability to handle four largish pans at one time. A typical example for me would be having couple of stockpots simmering on the back burners while I run two largish frying pans on the two front burners. This is something I do numbers of times per year when I am cooking for largish events that I host. I recognize that using smallish saucepans on the small back burners would be preferrable for the best efficiency, but sometimes i just need to use four large pans. For the suggestion on "reversing the diagonal," northcarolina's Samsung FTQ range has been replaced by the NE697 & 695 in Samsung's line up of induction ranges. The new ones are the models available to me. The new models have more conventional burner layouts than the FTQ models. Northcarolina: I forgot that the FTQ's large burer is that large. Thanks for taking the time to run the other tests. Glad to hear the stove is working so well for you. The "hassle free" 30 day-return policy is something that Best Buy initiated earlier this year for all products including appliances. It sounds like the message is clearly understood at your local store. At mine, it seems that there may be a need for education becuase I was given three three different stories: (a) the policy is hassle free returns, period; (b) induction stoves can be a problem because it is easy to scratch them in use or hauling and that can mean the store won't take it back; and (c) the induction stoves are all special order items -- they only have a floor model in the store and the actual purchase has to be ordered from a regional warehouse --- and the policy does not apply to special orders. Its probably a good thing that I'm taking my time about this.

I like it and the smell doesn't bother me at all, they do make it oderless for those that do not like the smell.

Fish emulsion is good for cactus..If you want, you can alternate: one month fish emulsion..the next month Miracle Gro, etc, etc..It's safe on plants, doesn't burn roots, (as far as I've read) but doesn't require all the nutrients as other foods. Toni

Definate Yay! here! I use it on everything I grow. I have found my plants to adore it, and from houseplants to seedlings, everything is growing beautifully (huge lush, blooming healthy plants!)! Plus, if you dont need alot of it, and a bottle will last a long time if you are a average home gardener! -Cassie

I (believe it or not)have yet to try it on my houseplants. I keep going out to get it,but instead keep returning from Lowes with yet another plant instead,lol. Thankfully,my plants seem to be doing okay without it. Though I must admit that I have to break down and buy some. I am the guy that started this thread afterall.

The kelp and fish formula are completly different. The fish provides the macronutrients and a few micronutrients. The kelp on the other hand contains over sixty micronutrients and very little macro. I use them both as a foilar spray.

Hi Grice,

I've wondered that same thing myself. I mean, they both sound healthy enough for our plants, right? I just don't think I could bear the smell of the fish emulsion. Oh, I would heave something terrible! I checked out the link Al provided to HH. Looks pretty good. BTW, did you go out to Lowes this weekend and come home with the fish emulsion or seaweed? LOL

Well Grow,I did indeed go out to Lowes over the holiday weekend and am proud to say that I returned home with fish emolsion.
Oh yeah,three Philo.'Micans' jumped into my cart and hitched a ride home also.

The better fish emulsion are descented to a point, that is very acceptable to me. I use one that has a pleasant mint smell it contains kelp and fulvic acid a growth stimulator. NPK is 4-3-3 it is excellent for foliar application out side. The scent is gone an a coupe of hours if you use a lot. Unfortunately is sold by a multi level marking company, however I have a commercial license to buy it, other wise it is very costly but I think it is still worth it at the retail price. It is most likely the best on the market.

Another thing to consider with fish emulsion is pets. My dog loves the stuff! I can't use it anymore because he goes around and eats all the plants that have just been fish emulsioned!

Another caveat is don't premix the stuff and leave it sit. It forms semi solid globs that don't like to break up again when left sitting in water for several days. End result is globs of the stuff on the tops of pots that molds.

No fertilizer whether organic or chemical should not be premixed and left to sit..(most fertilzer containers have warnings)
It's best to shake the bottle thoroughly before each use. Toni
