My street in Boca Raton. I've been planting stuff on the neighboring properties for years without asking or telling anyone it's being done. Nobody's ever complained.

You know what would be a really neat "guerilla gardening" adventure? Planting edibles in the nature preserves and parks! Wouldn't it be nice to put in some fruit and nut trees for the squirrels and raccoons and bears; some greens for the deer, some grain crops for the migrating birds? They have it so rough out there, and the pickings in sandy-scrubby-harsh Florida wildernesses are pretty slim. Does anybody know if that's legal?

I pick up trash along our rural street. Big trash. We are on the route to the Hillsborough County dump and stuff flies out of vehicles all the time.

The best part is that I am finally able to just do it and not feel mad or resentful. Last week it was a broken vinyl chair and now there is a large child's pool or animal feeder bin out there. I am just waiting until I am in the truck again. No special trips to save my gas.

Ricky I would love to be your neighbor....if you're ever inn my neck of the woods and feel the need to do some gardening feel free :-)

I can't imagine thats it legal...I would think trespass at the very least....but then who is really going to mind an extra plant or two.

I've tried. Some wilderness areas in Hillsborough County. My crops failed :(

I've also considered but never carried out planting on neglected roadsides and medians around my neighborhood.

Of course, I've tossed who knows how many fruit and vegetable seeds out the window after a snack whilst driving. Maybe a few of them took.

Behind my property is an easement for electricity and telephone lines. It is maintained a few times a year.
Along the edges, against the fences, grow a nice variety of edible plants, everglades tomatoes, chaya, prickly pear cactus, passion fruit, overhanging mangoes, avocados and bananas.
Not all were planted by me.

I don't think I would try it in preserves or parks, though...they are usually very diligent about making sure nothing is planted that doesn't naturally grow in a preserve. You'd have to get permission and approval of some sort, I'm pretty sure.

But an empty lot? What a cool idea! Make the world a better place, one plant at a time!

Thonotorose, my hat's off to you! I keep my street clean too. There is an empty house across from me and I keep the papers and stuff picked up. And an empty lot next door.
