a new seedling to share today

I was happy to see this one open up today. I took this first picture at about 9:00 this morning - facing the morning sun

VICTORIAN LACE X DUCHESS OF DIAMONDS

And here she is again this evening at 5:30 with the sun at her back

I think she held up real well to be a first flower. I welcome comments. : )

Shelly, she's a beauty.
I've noticed that many of my DL photo's don't show the true color. I'm glad you posted two.

I find the first two amazing. I would have thought the contrast in color would have been more vivid. Instead they have faded into a more pastel color. I think I like the first year bloom the best. I've noticed this on some of the other first and second year photos that have been posted. Thanks for sharing your lovely photos, Mona

Congratulations on your pretty seedlings. Normally, I'd pass by the yellows only because there's too much overall yellow tone in our garden, but S. Green Creek is so perfect, it gets my vote today. I'm glad you are getting some nice blooms "up yonder." The extreme heat with no relief in rain has created very, very bad conditions here in the Gulf Coast area, worsened by our 2 nights per week water restrictions. I walked out to the daylily bed today after church, and it looks like a war zone. Almost every daylily looks like it is dying, or is retreating underground. This has all happened quickly within the last three days. I've never seen such a disaster among our daylilies before. Nancy

That is beyond awesome! Love the various ways of opening up the window you demonstrated. We don't have the $$ to spend for that window nor the outdoor wonderland view you have. We will have 3 new windows installed about the same size which even if I can't have your window, I will have lots of daylight!

It has a lot of things a value in daylily. It's very round, with a nice edge, fat sepals that recurve, and good color. Congratulations on a great seedling!

wow,I didn't know they would change colors like that from m orning to evening.Both pictures are very pretty,but I like the evening picture the best.

Thanks everyone. You would probably laugh if you saw the conditions the three seedlings I just recently posted were growing in. I have two small beds at the base of my back porch that WERE suppose to be Hosta and impatients -- well the morning, almost all day sun fries the impatients but a few well placed hostas are still making it. Those beds were put in place for my backyard wedding almost 3 years ago and looked beautiful for about a month..lol. Well I ran out of room in my tiny seedling bed and just planted those in there - in amongst the hostas that were making it look more like jungle conditions. I honestly did not think they would survivie but I couldn't just pitch the dirt and tiny little seedling -- so I used a pencil to wallow out a hole - shows how small they were at the time!! Anything water related that one would pitch out in the yard seemed to be thrown into these two beds.. lord knows what all. Well early spring I cleaned out all the WEEDS and uncovered these beauties happily growing in such a wasteland. I figure their blooms are their way of saying thank you for cleaning up the neighborhood..lol.

That's funny, Shelly! It's amazing the conditions daylilies will put up with. You give me hope for my seedlings. How long have you been hybridizing? Your seedlings are really nice. I've only been hybridizing for a couple years; my first seedlings might bloom this summer. Somehow I don't think mine will start out as nice as the ones you've shared, but hope springs eternal.

I have actually been dabling with seedlings for about 5 years.. although I can't count my first year as it was a total disaster that was a comedy of errors.. I think only one seedling made it through that dreadful learning process. These three came from my third year and I have about 30 from that year. Next year I should bloom about 100 and year after that - if all the seedlings currently green survive - it will be about 500. I am learning what works best for me, my schedule, my climate and my finances. This forum has been a wonderful place to gather knowledge and hear about a tip someone else has had success with that works into my system. Hodge podge at best.. but I have fun.

Wow Shelly.....DROOL, DROOL! It is an ABSOLUTE STUNNER! I know you are doing the happy dance! What really amazes me is how well it grew iin your little wasteland. I'd make those little beds there at your back porch a little bit bigger! LOL!
