Good for you...now you'll be able to do so much with the new sunlight you get. They are beautiful trees but they take away a lot of sunlight. My neighbors on three sides of my yard have oaks and they are so huge they are growing into my yard. I feel like I am being attacked by the oak tree monsters. lol Enjoy your new lighting.

I won't miss the leaves and the giant pollen chunks dropping on my patio, driveway, roof, plants....everywhere.

They cleaned up the extra growth on the other oak significantly. WOW! What a difference tree pruning makes!

They also removed my quite dead (except for the one sucker at the bottom) 60+ year old orange tree. It's amazing what you learn about a tree once you see the interior of the trunk. Rot, rot, rot....

Now, they are pruning the front oaks...yippeeeee!

The Heavy sickening THUMP as the tree falls to the ground is more than I can bear.
Had three giant oaks (diseased)out front removed yesterday and today a dead pine and oak.I asked them to trim my sabal palms Only near the front sidewalk and only the berries since they are messy.I have 100 other palms for the wildlife. Well.they hatcheted those poor palms leaving a measly few mohawk fronds. Hello!!!!!
I sit at hurricane readiness seminars and Earth day preaching against removing healthy green palm fronds and passing out literature on How to Prune Palms correctly and what do they do to my trees AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAgh! I will be shunned by my fellow gardeners forever!

OUCH!!! Yeah, that is painful! That's the downside with tree trimmers....you never know until the job is done whether they know what they are doing or not.

So far, no butchering taking place here. Seems like they are doing a decent pruning. The shape of the existing oak is quite nice too.

The worst part is Ank Heron was screaming at me. He visits my pond every day and occasionally sat in the dead pine. He was FURIOUS and finally flew away SQUAWCKING loudly the whole way. I felt so bad but it was a dangerous tree.

SPF, I've got to take the Live Oak in the back out, it's already gotten into my pool lines once, and it's way too close to the house if we get a direct hit by a hurricane. I have NO idea what the previous owners were thinking when they put it there....I'll hate to see it go but I can't continue to play Russian Roulette during hurricane season, so I'd be interested in a referral to the Tree Service you used.

Tom - I was thinking about you. I thought you might be interested. I was hoping you'd miss my post. ;-) I love your oak tree!...but, I totally understand. It's 'Sophies Choice'...pool or tree...(sigh!). Sometimes it just has to be done.

Send me an email (I can't find yours for some reason?) and I will forward you the contact info. They were very reasonably priced and very professional. Did a GREAT job. Cleaned up everything and power swept the dust/leaves/pollen as well. They will transfer any animal nests they find too.

'Crazy Neighbor' hired them to remove a tree as well and was pleased with their work.

GoldenPond: I know what you mean. I was cussed out by the squirrels for the rest of the day and this morning (boy, they hold a grudge!). It was like, 'When things go wrong in the Enchanted Forest...".

I have a laurel oak and a live oak growing next to each other in the back yard. I hate all the sticks the laurel oak drops! I love the live oak. If I was staying here, I would get rid of the laurel oak.

Wow, I'd love to come by and get the wood! We have fires in our backyard almost daily in the fire pit!

I'm saving the wood for my fireplace as well. :) It will be nice to not buy it in tiny bags from Publix.

How do you store your firewood? On the ground or on something? Did you buy something special for your firewood?

Keep it well away from the house and garage, and make sure it's cross-stacked so it can "breathe"...a wood pile is a real bug/termite-magnet here in our hot humid weather. I just buy a face cord every year and if any is left at the end of the season it gets thrown out!

Did you have the stumps ground?
We got lots of nice sawdust that way but the trimmers took the wood.We have more than enough wood and give away to neighbors and family etc.
Cant use the firepit with the drought (and lately wind!)so we had them take it.I am sure they are happily selling it!
Meanwhile I have used some sawdust as a mulch for the stones in a path.

They didn't grind the stump of my orange tree. It wasn't in the original quote, so I probably will call them back at a later date as I want to re-plant. Or, is there a way I can remove the stump myself (without a stump-grinder)?

The oak tree stump they could not grind because it's connected to the standing oak and the fear was it would kill it. So, I need some advice as to how to prevent the suckers from popping up? Right now, the firewood is stacked on it until I figure out where to put it.

I am really pleased at how the yard looks although sad at the loss of my orange tree. :( I figure, I can replant and that can be my legacy/contribution that I leave behind for future owners.

It's definitely a lot sunnier/hotter in the yard now. The plants are going thru a bit of an adjustment.

An interesting little trivia on Stump Grinders, I used to work with the guy who's father invented the machine. He's still alive and quite, quite wealthy.

SPF, IF they left SOME of the trunk to the orange tree above the ground this will be easy to do...in another life I was a Tree Surgeon, now their Arborist ;-)
