Thunderous Thursday blooms Part II

I got my delivery from Maryott's this afternoon, so four great things happened today to make me happy. (See Part I for the other three:)

MOONLIT CARESS and HILLBILLY HEART, two Salters, looked pretty together.

BLUEBERRIES AND CREAM just started blooming yesterday. It has four-way branching and 25-29 buds per scape!

WITCH STITCHERY and STRAWBERRY CANDY

ROCK CANDY and some coreopsis whose name I can't remember

VICTORIAN LACE

SACRED GROUND looking like a bicolor. The heat must have faded the sepals in the bud.

Spacecoast Sharptooth clump

TUXEDO JUNCTION clump

VIOLET TRANQUILITY had the bluest eye in my garden last year. I think it will again.

Oh my, I want them all! I love Blueberries & Cream with the little blue flowers in the back. They're all gorgeous.

THANK YOU ALL for taking the time to comment on my pictures! I am always so busy taking care of Mom and the grandbabies that my computer time is limited but a new post is on it's way very soon, I promise. I have SO many latebloomers so I have tons of photos left to go. To answer questions: Mantis, Frank's Star of Bethlehem doesn't usually bloom beneath the foliage but this year it wasn't much above it as you see in the photo. It doesn't have tall scapes anyway but they are above the foliage. This is why I planted it in the front of my border. But I also think it's the kind of daylily folks enjoy seeing closeup anyway so I don't mind it's shorter stature. It does bloom late every year here, but for such a frilly bloom it opens well. For those who asked about Catherine Neal....the color on mine does not fade. It is very dark, just as you see in the photo. Actually it is hard to get a good photo of it to show just how dark it really is. Nancy, that red flower is indeed a coreopsis. I lost the tag and don't remember the name but it is one of the newer ones on the market. With so many flowers and people stopping to look, somtimes tags disappear and then my brain freezes up for the names....lol. I do the paths also, but some aren't finished yet because I ran out of slate. I will be posting again soon for anyone interested in seeing more of the late show....thanks for looking! Celeste

Thursday's Weather: Here It Comes Again!

G.M., Thanks for asking. Mom is hospitalized, but my sis is supposed to bring her home today. No definitive diagnosis yet, but they still think it is cancer and more tests are scheduled. I'm hoping to stay home all day today and get gardening stuff done, but if my sister or brother calls and wants me to come down, of course I will drop everything immediately and go. Since it is planting season, I'm trying to split my time between here and there. Otherwise, I'd just pack and go and stay for a week or two. I was gone most of yesterday. As much as it seems like "spring is here", it has REALLY arrived in the D-FW metroplex. The bluebonnetse have started blooming down there. While on our way down there yesterday, a huge piece of steel came flying up off the roadway and took out our windshield on I-35 near Denton. So, first thing tomorrow a.m., the truck goes to get a new windshield. It's always something. : ) Steve LaNore starting talking yesterday about the potential for very severe weather here April 3-4, and the NWS sounds pretty serious about it also. So, everything I do I am doing with an eye on the weather. I just know we are due for a bad hail storm here at our house. I think the last one we had that really tore up the plants was in 1999 or 2000 or 2001, so we're overdue. (Marietta has had some damage since then, but not those of us out here in the middle of nowehere.) I had to water the plants a little yesterday morning too as the hot wind had dried them out. We had light rain droplets earlier, and a little thunder, but not enough rain to amount to anything. It looks like it is all going east of us today. Who know what we'll get tomorrow. Whatever it is, I hope it is something "good" like rain, and not "bad" like hail or tornadoes. Dawn

Beautiful as always. My favorite is the first one with the MOONLIT CARESS and HILLBILLY HEART together. I am always amazed at your bud counts. I have to buy northern bred if I want high bud counts like that.

Blueberries And Cream get my vote as does Victorian Lace. Just beautiful.. My VL hasn't bloomed yet. I guess I had best check on ti. You have a yard full of beauties right now...Ellie

Bigack - the blue flowers with Blueberries and Cream are balloon flowers. I like them because they really take our heat and are long lived. I have several clumps around the yard.

Rita - This is the first year in a long time that I've had a lot of great bud counts. It's too bad the southern bred ones don't do better for you.

Natanya - Tuxedo Junction is a very nice near-white one. It has good branching and bud count this year!

Ellie - I would think Victorian Lace would be blooming for you by now. I moved mine two falls agao, and it sulked last season and didn't bloom. But it did multiply well, and the flowers are gorgeous this time.

Another great selection of pics. Wow, you sure do have some beauties blooming. I always enjoy your pics of MOONLIGHT SAIL. Still haven't gotten it so maybe next year.

I have MOONLIGHT CARESS (love it) and it has lots of scapes and buds. Alot of Salters do well here. I should check out HILLBILLY HEART. I didn't realize it got so many buds.

All right, you've torn it. There is no way I could pick just one from that assortment. I can't even pick just three! Those are beautiful, and so are the picture.

Julia - Hillbilly Heart was my best budded daylily four years ago - before the neighbors planted a cherry tree in back of it. It still does pretty well in part sun, but I really need to move it to get the best performance.

Kay - I know you're excited about your Maryotts order. It's going to be in the mid-90s here for the next seven days, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do about planting them. I have been working on extending an existing bed, so I may plant them in the ground and cover the area with a shade cloth. Even potting them is risky in this heat and humidity.
