I can only imagine that they classify your page as commercial, cause you've offered cuttings and plants with prices. Without the commercial aspect of the prices your page shouldn't violate the terms of GW any more.

Yeah, herman, w/o the fig cutting offerings it should not violate the terms of service.. BTW, you can trade still.

Plenty of companies have offered links to their websites in the Gardenweb forums, seemingly without reprimand. Usually people just huff and puff that we are not suppose to advertise. I think what's done is done. Instead of taking down your website, perhaps you can write to Gardenweb explaining the mistake and asking to have the initial postings removed.

The way I read it, the poster in the other forum was referring to TyTy suing the Garden Watchdog for the poor opinions of its customers. I don't think it was necessary for you to remove your site.

My mistake thow,because i violated their terms of service.Well all is fixed,now.I also,think i found a Home for my extra trees.
The person will dig them out.I will give them free to him,(Bare rooted ,no soil).
If he turns around and do not want them i will still have time till Nov. to post here and find someone to take them in these conditions.I have about 12 figs ,2 and three years old,to find new home for.

I was disappointed to see that you took down your web page. I think as long as you don't do a hard sell on the forum postings, people won't mind.

In regards to unsubscribing to the forum, I don't think one does really. Unlike listservs where one receives e-mails of all posts, for forums one just walks away from them and doesn't return (I hope you don't do this).

I remember at least one person tried already to create an alternative fig forum, it started nicely but fizzled. A split was done on the GW Citrus forum with more success (but using a different software platform from Jon's). It took away the more dedicated citrus hobbyists, and left behind at GW the neophytes and the curious beginning gardeners who stumbled across the citrus forum because of the other gardening forums. Personally I feel the two halves would be better together. GW does have those annoying floating ads, but attracts a good mix of people -- and I like the software platform better than most of the free sites that allow people to set up impromptu forums.

I didn't get to see your site but if it had prices listed maybe you can take the prices off and just keep a list of your trees. :-)

No Sue I am not going to go any farther than that .I got silence now, no more Emails,my Membership is still valid I am pleased with the resolve.Next time i will not make the same mistake.
I might even preinstall my site Back,but i cancelled the account in frustration,and it was paid for an year,and i had to accept losing the money.You are right it had prices on it and i think that trigered the action.

I haven't been around the gardenweb forums lately cause I'm tired of all the pop-ups. This is by far the worst site that I use. Things are always flying around and I click on things I have no intention on clicking. I was just trying to click the submit button and a banner came flying across the screen and I wasn't able to click submit. These forums are getting way too commercial for me.

Herman, if you find another fig home, please let us know so we can follow. Thanks

I missed all of this episode during my trip to USDA/UC Davis. That is why I am moving on, Tired of the pop-ups, obnoxious ads, disfunctional e-mail, etc. Gardenweb would do better to make their site a quality,, user-friendly site, rather than being threatened by your selling a few plants. My sympathies to you.

I understand your concerns and observations, but felt it was time to do what needed doing in way that was feasible for now at this time.

I had to load "Ad Block" and "Script Block" on Fire Fox just to keep this site viewable. It is a shame when such a great site would rather sell out to commercials and harass its real supporters. I have joined Jon's site and hope to see all the wonderful folks from here over there too. I will still visit here but will shift my loyalties to the "Encanto Forum".
Herman you should have your web site back up, you have just as much right to it as they do to their site, you are not competing with GW or its advertisers. Just this incident should have generated enough publicity to get you started and hopefully by word of mouth and email create some business for you. Don't give up!

Lets look on the bright side: GW for the beginners fig forum, and figs4fun for the advanced one.

I should say I am relatively happy on GW these days, with my paying membership I get none of the obnoxious ads. There is also a long history of strict enforcement of that commercial ban. In theory its a good thing, otherwise TyTy would probably be here advertising their products in followups to every other post. In the case of a long-time contributor like Herman selling a couple plants, it went way overboard.

To my understanding the only reprimand came from two other GW posters on the Fruit & Orchards forum -- GW administration said nothing. Herman, correct me if I'm wrong on this. It was the second poster who (with a bit of irony) wrote only TyTy was allowed to advertize on the forum, and Herman might expect a lawsuit if he didn't pull back. I think it was this post that startled Herman into closing his page.

Yes Gene you are right but The way the Email was sent i had no way to know because it had secret sender,so i can't recognise the Person or send back an answer!!!!!

Hi Gene :No I do not have haveit so it will be replied to,my yahoo mail but if you advice me that way i know how to change it.
It had a secred cifred letters and numbers.
And it was said this email is not intended so that you can reply to it,.....or something like that.
