Depends on how big a door your putting in. They want like 14", if you are laying 8" block then 2 courses above door should give you around 16". That is for a standard 7 or 8ft high door. I would call the garage door company you think you are going to use and ask them what they want.

I have it but haven't loaded up to anywhere near 1750 pounds. I would place a 44 pound item on a board to help distribute the weight and/or strattling one of the brackets.

Oh, Graywings, I never thought I'd be jealous of someone getting the fast track system but I am. DH set up the garage perfectly 5 years ago when we moved in. He used the rubber-coated hangers you screw through the drywall into the studs. He was so proud of it I didn't have the heart to point out that he didn't allow for growth. Now that we've purchased a few more shovels, irrigation hoses, ect...its becoming a mess. He keeps trying to hang multiple items on 1 hanger. I've mentioned the fast track system to him several times but he's determined to make his original idea work. That fast track system really looks great. I hope it works for you. Ron - Maybe you need to post a warning before readers view those photos (just teasing) - that one you posted today really made be feel a little dizzy. I'm not afraid of heights - just precipices!!! There is just no way I could ever get that close. But I can also sympathize with you - my middle son would have been right there next to your son.
