I Need Emergency Help for a Juniper Bonsai
Comments (3)Alright so I only have figured out how to post photos in reply so here goes, I hope this helps more. The OP photo is taken today, I open that window to let the sun shine on it on sunny afternoons but it's only a south facing window and it's somewhat filtered because it's going through a screen, so I try to gently take it out to get direct sun occasionally on mild mornings or early evenings. This photo below is what it looked like the day it arrived at my house, as you can see it had some brown needles from day 1, but I didn't consider that a problem, I didn't consider they would have sent me a plant that was already sick....See MoreNeed help with Juniper ID
Comments (11)Kenneth, I'm presently enrolled in the certificate conifers course being taught at Longwood by Richard Bitner and I am very familiar with Juniperus chinensis and Juniperus virginiana, both of which are ruled out in the case of my volunteer. Please come down off your ladder and read my post. There is no adult - scale foliage on my plant, only juvenile - pointed needles. I have surmised that my volunteer is going to overgrow it's location, which is not a problem. A few back-n-forth's with my hand saw and it's history. I just would like to know what variety of Juniper took up residence....See MoreJuniper needs help
Comments (1)need a picture ... if anything.. google juniper tip blight .... and if so.. i just got rid of mine.. they arent worth spending money on cure... if there is one .... not really aware of juniper bugs ... and finally .. no.. it didnt come on in weeks.. it 'showed' in the last few weeks.. but being evergreen.. let me suggest.. it could predate last fall .... did you have drought or severe heat last summer... like i did???? .. its the cold freeze-drying effects of winter wind.. that sucked all the moisture out of the evergreen... and when it starts warming this late spring.. that is when they started browning.. which is the end of the orange you speak of ... and chance at a pic ... ken ps: and my usual final comment is.. if this is the front of your house.. that is no place for a 5 year renovation project..that will probably fail...just start over.......See MoreNeed Help with Overgrown Junipers & Daffodils
Comments (1)Below is a link to some information on pruning junipers. Note that if you cut back to woody stems where there is no green foliage, it will not re-grow from that spot. Daffodil leaves produce food that is stored in the bulb for next year's flowers. If you cut off the foliage before it turns yellow on its own, you reduce the chances of flowering next year. Once the foliage yellows, cut it down to the ground. You can plant perennials in front of them if you have the space, to hide the fading foliage. Daylilies are one good plant for this purpose, there are many others. Once the foliage has turned yellow, you can dig up and divide the daffodils, as plants that are in one spot for many years produce more bulbs around the original one. This is a good opportunity to thin out overcrowded clumps, which can start to produce fewer flowers after a while, and replant them in other areas. Check out the bulb forum for more hints on gardening with bulbs. Here is a link that might be useful: pruning...See Moremmajicmann
