Soooooo excited! My Very 1st Seedling

I hope you all don't think I'm insane. I dabbled a little a couple years ago. None of them bloomed last year. Most have scapes this year. This was the only seed I got from this cross. Keep in mind......we had heavy rains late yesterday evening and last night. And this is the first bloom. And in my early morning drowsiness I accidentally tore one of the sepals. I hope it keeps getting better. I think I like it. I REALLY like the edge. It has a small metallic gold rim that I tried to get in the close up picture.

I would describe it as a peach orange blend with faint rosy pink halo. What do you think?

(Please don't pay any attention to the mess in the background. This bed is on the edge of the woods and dh hasn't sprayed there yet.)

I understand this. Certain crops do well with direct sowing but I've had contrary to the norm experiences to date. Carrots and onions and beets---eh, not as great as I hoped despite over seeding. Radishes all sprouted though using same method. Same with zuch, watermelon and winter squash---the seedlings I have had to pull that I hate because they weren't cheap and frankly, I'd love lots of all three---and both marigolds and nasturtiums too. My comment context is on several fronts. I did all transplants last year from mail order and a nursery. It was not cost effective but only one seedling of 15-20 didn't make it. This year was all direct sowing in contrast minus the yarrow left from last year. So yes, seed is cheap overall but I have empty space where I over seeded and not enough space where I counted each individual seed---100% germination with those seeds to be exact so I moved what I could to empty pots with crap soil to see how they do. It was a simple observation that others might find useful/intriguing because there is no right or wrong way to garden and why not share? But thanks for the information.

I had half-dozen seedlings last year. I had to move one early on because it was in the path of the vicious plant-eating lawnmower. I put it in a small pot and put it under the mama plants leaves until later in the season when I gave it away. By that time, the others were big enough to dig as well. I left one next to the mama plant as a "backup". I was just admiring it a few moments ago.

Thanks Laura and Nancy! I've been watering the heck out of things since we hadn't had much rain until today. But I think it's the compost I bought from the Amish that has made things grow so well. Don't know precisely what's in it, but it even seems to discourage slugs, I've noticed. Something about the gritty feel to it, I think.

That is a beautiful one. It has the edge and a nice clear colr. a winner I would think. And we all tear or mess up some of them when we are taking pics.

Thank you all for your nice comments. I'm so grateful to have somewhere to share. My children are starting to roll their eyes everytime they hear the word "daylily" or "flower". I hope I don't turn them off from gardening.

Oh my goodness Michelle, your family sounds just like mine:) That's funny.

Your seedling is very beautiful and I love the edge. I know the pictures don't show how it glistens in the sun, but it probably does. People probably think I'm crazy when I'm 2 inches away from a flower studying the beauty of the edges:)

I think your description of it is pretty close. It definitely looks like a peachy orange.

Beautiful ruffly edge and very nice texture. for an FFO, there is really a lot to look forward for this seedling. Congratulations!

I think it is very nice, love the color and it has a great edge, and love the faint halo. Congrats on that one!!!
