Lava Flow Blooms Again. And lilies and roses.

LAVA FLOW. It had two flowers today but I could only get one in the frame as they were pointing in opposite directions!

SARATOGA SPRINGTIME has been blooming in a nice clump each day.

Terraces garden has the lilies up top for color while we wait for the daylilies. Veggie containers still hanging out there in front lol!

These Tango lilies bloom up top there.

Other lilies bloom in the daylily bed. I bought mixed colors when I planted them last year. But I have only red or pink. I have to add more there.

Some lilies in another daylily bed.

The back yard daylily plateau is no where near ready for bloom.

Red Roses blooming in the backyard. Sometimes the HEARTS OF FIRE daylilies in front of them bloom with them but not this year.

I love your garden! Never get tired of seeing pictures. What's the name of the red roses in the first rosey picture? Ridiculously pretty. You have the healthiest foliage ever.

Ah me! Those rose achingly beautiful! The lilies really look good, and Lava Flow and Saratoga Springtime are great startes, but ah the roses.

Your red rose is stunning - I want to reach out and touch it. I also love the picture of your Tango Lilies, the little bit of blue (can't tell what they are, some kind of salvia?) really helps to set off the warm colors of the lilies. I especially like pictures showing an entire flower bed, and I would love to see another shot of this same bed in a few days when it is really going strong as you have hundreds of buds showing. I got ROSE F. KENNEDY from Mary when it first came out- back in 2008, just after the Houston Convention if I remember correctly. Cannot tell you how many people have tried to buy it from me since then! Even several hybridizers have called long distance trying to talk me out of a piece!( this was 2-3 years ago.) It is now hopefully much better distributed than it was 4 years ago. But the garden will be on Regional tour next summer and I really wanted both of these to be nice clumps(and they are - both are about 8-9 fans or so.) Emerald Starburst rebloomed this summer- that was a first.

It does make a huge difference if you spray. Not everyone wants to. If you are willing to spray it will be great, if not, look for a Kords red or an old garden red. Usually they are more disease resistant. But ogr's get huge and aren't always repeat bloomers so keep that in mind. Usually spraying is needed for the more modern "better formed" blooms. Old garden reds tend to be sloppy in form but easier to care for. It's a bit of a trade off.

Oh Julia, your mosquitoes must be the random ones that did not find me in the garden!! I am the mosquito magnet queen. Mantis, I know I am fortunate that I don't have to cull many cultivars due to location. And I don't know why about the scapes. My clumps of Lava Flow have a couple of short scapes but not like some of my others. And these are not instant rebloom scapes, they are actually blooming 4 or 5 inches above the ground. In addition to this, I have an infestation of a "plant bug", identified for me several years ago by an entomologist as a genus of Lopidea-a flying red insect that feeds on daylily buds when they are small-and then the buds die and drop off. Last year, I had a great year with my daylilies, probably best ever so I can't complain too much as I know many of you had drought and other problems. I am enjoying the lilies I have, even if I have to photo by night at times. This is my moon photo the night I was out snapping pics. Kate

OMG, roses out front are unbelievably beautiful! What a sight to see, thanks for posting. Lava Flow looks very good, and I like the pic of backyard daylilies, looks so thick and green!

brittie, Thanks! That red rose is LAVAGLUT. It is my favorite of all my roses and I have a lot of roses. As for the folliage I spray with a systemic fungicide which I mix with Neptunes liquid fertilizer.

Kay, I know you love the roses and they really are looking especially lovely this year. But at least you have your own lovely roses to enjoy whenever you want in your own yard.

I love the photo of the Tango lilies keeping watch over the veggie garden down below. The red roses are always a hit, as are the many, many roses in the front. Lava Flow looks like it had a better opening today. It's nice and round and bright!

Thanks, Val. I just love the spring rose flush.

Debra, is is bright and sunny today and was dreary and rainy for Lava Flows first bloom. And it is difficult to get another angle of the Tango lilies as shooting up never works. Sometimes I just take a picture looking sideways!

WOW!!!!RITA;The back yard is gorgeous, with LAVA FLOW and them gorgeous lilies.The Tango lilies are beautiful,and so are them red ones, too. Its just all gorgeous, Then the front yard with all them gorgeous roses. its a sight to behold, so beautiful.
