My portable green houses are on a screened in back porch and they get alot of afternoon sun.Lots of humidity/condensation builds up in them so they sprout things pretty well.You can get them at Walmart.com for $34 and if you have them shipped to your local walmart,shipping is free.Another wser showed hers a while back for $39 and when I checked they had been marked down,smile..so I got 2.I mist them ever so often to keep them happy.I am starting to plant out this week.I have alot of huge sprouts-didn't show all of them.The ones I posted was castor bean.Love the roots on wsd sprouts,then they take off.Most of mine have designated spots but for the ones I am unfimiliar with,will go into a holding bed.When I see how they look they will get moved or composted. I feel so sorry for those of you that live up north and are still having snow and cold weather.We have snow maybe one day a year and that is plenty for us.I can not tolerate cold weather so am happy as a lark down here in warm Ga.It is in 70s,one day of 80 and nights in 50-60s.We will get rain later this week but it will stay warm,so thats wonderful.I want to see photos of all your babies when they pop up and can't wait for summer-June-July photos of all the blooms.This is my 3rd yr. to ws and it gets better each year. moonphase

If you are planning perrenials in between, you more or less have to leave the room as the daylilies will crowd out the other flowers. This only works in all daylily sections in my opinion. I didn't crowd them like this in my mixed beds but instead spaced them far apart and put in annuals in between. But you could do them in clusters and later when they fill in too much you could move the middle one. This is just my idea and the close spacing goes against conventional wisdom. I have been gardening for a very long time and beaking the rules most of that time. You should see my rose gardens. Planted really, really close and some I have had that way for 4 years already. Needs more plunning but works for me. My yard is also not big and I refuse to waste space.

Thanks for the comments. Helen, I don't know about well organized but if I wasn't halfway organized things would really be in a mess here as I sure am getting forgetful. The first Tuesday of each month some friends and I get together to play cards/games. Before I left the house today, I picked up my watch off the microwave to put it on. Decided I would put some lotion on my arm first then walked out of the house with it still by the kitchen sink. At my friends I looked down to see what time it was and no watch. I thought I had lost it as the clasp needs to be shut down really well. Traced my steps back but couldn't find it. Got home, told my DH I had lost my watch. Looked by the sink and there was my watch were I had left it. Sure made me feel foolish! Glenda, go for it! Blogger is really easy to do. This is my second blog. The first one was mainly for the cards I make; I decided I didn't like posting so deleted it. My daughter wanted me to do one for gardening so I started another one. Hope I keep up better with this one. It is going to be a little bit of everything. I posted some new pics on it this morning. Did you get an update notice? With the other blog I got an email when someone subscribed or unsubscribed but didn't get one for you. I maybe need to check it out.

Hi everyone, Well, I am double posting this in 2 forums - I hope nobody minds. As promised, here I am posting about what in the world I've been doing all summer while traveling to & fro Wisconsin. As some of you already know, I work with fish-eating birds: cormorants, pelicans, herons, egrets, gulls, wood storks, etc. My husband and I have been working in Wisconsin for the past 3 years, but we also regularly work in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan, Ontario, and a few other places. Yes, we are a husband + wife team, working together out of the same office. Many people are surprised that we work together, but it is great. We make a fantastic team, and are often at our best under challenging field conditions. Great minds think alike, and being dear friends & in love sure helps too. (ok, enough with the mushy stuff). So now for a few photos from the vegetation surveys we did this month. Background: We are working on remote islands in Lake Michigan, around the Door Co. Peninsula area. All the islands have nesting double-crested cormorants and herring gulls. Some also have nesting Am. white pelicans and Canada geese. Back in April, we put up some 6 ft x 6 ft pens (we call them exclosures) to exclude the cormorants because they damage vegetation with their nesting activities (too much POOP!). So then we went back in August to catalog everything that grew in the pens, by plant species, and weighed it to also determine biomass. That meant breaking out the field guides, studying up on botany and the flora of Wisconsin, and bringing the plant presses for species we couldn't identify on the island. We compareed the exclosure plots to some "control" plots, which had nothing but 4 wooden stakes at the corners. We had 45 plots to do on 3 islands, plus another 3 islands down by the city of Green Bay that we did simple vegetation surveys on (no pens). It was alot of work, but very interesting. The bottom line: there are lots of nonnative species on those islands, like motherwort, catnip, pigweed, common mallow, stinging nettle and sow thistle. The native vegetation was primarily lambsquarter and smartweed species. Almost done clipping this 1-meter plot: Looking for small plants beneath the lambsquarter The finished, sampled 1-meter subplot Who would even know what this was?!?! I saved seeds to winter sow and see if I can't figure it out. The very last veg plot to measure. You can tell, because we look so happy!
