I was at Iowa Outdoor Products this weekend, and all their trees were 40% off. I fell instantly in love with a Hydrangea Paniculata (Kyushu). I think it will find a very nice home in my work-in-progress cottage garden.

There is a picture of a kyushu in the thread link below.

Alas, my only regret is that they didn't have any mock orange in stock... very sad.

It is GORGEOUS!! It is about 5 1/2 to 6 feet tall, larger and bushier on top than the one in the photo. It is technically a shrub trained as a tree, so when I confirmed that they were giving the 40% off on it as well, I am not ashamed to say I did a little dance in their office area.

They are even holding onto it for me for a couple of weeks during this awful heat so that it gets lots of tlc.

My experience with white roses (Mme Hardy, Mme Legras de St Germain, Thomas Lipton, and another rugosa, Souvenir de somebody) is that after rain storms, they look droopy at best, messy and soiled at worst. Three days of rain - THREE DAYS - and often heavy. QM 2 in pot on exposed deck - two buds half opened, two showing white all around, on Tuesday. And then the rains came. Skies cleared yesterday - and thiose two buds are nearly full open, the tighter two just breaking, and all four are pure white and clean. The upright habit is unusual for my collection of mostly shrubby and ogr stuff, and will deserve a focal point in the new garden.

I am reading this thread which was sent to me by Bev, after I spotted two cats. in my parsley and did not recognize them. I have grown a butterfly garden for a few years, seen several monarch cats., one chrysallis (which was gone the day after I saw it), and although I have grown parsley for over 15 years I have never seen a BST cat., in fact the only time I saw a BST was several years ago in a lilac bush. Sadly, only one of my cats. remains. It is growing well and this morning I spotted it munching away. The parsley plants seem no worse for the moment, they seem to prefer the curly over the Italian. Still wondering if I want to grow them. Lots of interesting informtion here. I just wanted to know what the result would be. I also wonder what the major predators are. I will look it up. Thanks for all the info. Northerner.

Three Indian Ringnecks, a Meyer's Parrot, a Pacific Parrotlet, a pet American Parakeet and a colony of 'keets. Got an albino female living in the nest box, right now. Hi HnO - I ran to Lowes to check out F&E Summer Lace that you had to give in to! LOL ... no such luck Â:( ... all the Hs they had were the reg Pink F&E as well as the Blue. Like any addict ... since I was there & have several on wish list + must list, I came home with 2 musts & 1 whim (none Hs tho)!!! This AM I got 2 in & I'm simply happy - the holes were pre-dug last Fall, so t'was a cinch!!! Â;) Lowes will take the whim back, if I can't fit her in amongst the musts ... nice isn't it?! Â;)

Lovely shrub---I'm such a plantaholic that I've started working on OP's gardens, as mine is a small space....neighbors walking by are startled to see me deadheading in someone else's front yard (with permission, of course)...

Sue - I laughed when I read your post. I go every Saturday morning too. But Winterberry Gardens near here has the neatest annuals. Last Saturday I bought Love in a Mist and peach/pink snapdragons. I'm also waiting for the fall planting season and hoping to buy the Blue Muffin Viburnum - of course, I'll end up buying a whole lot more than that! :)

Hi, I'm Sylvia and I've gone to Lowe's every day at lunch for the past four days buying plants that are 75% off.

Did I mention my DH gives me lunch money and I buy plants with it instead everyday? Today I returned some roman shades and got a refund so I could get two more moonglow junipers and a spirea.
