Fig Mystery (Pics)

Greetings,

When we moved in to our home (Phoenix, AZ) last summer/fall, a fig tree in the yard had lots of figs on it but none was edible. The figs were small and green. They didn't ripen, but instead just rotted "immaturely". I tried to eat a couple of the figs--not at all sweet.

Now the tree is loaded with the green figs again. I don't know much about figs.

1. Can anyone identify the type of fig by the pictures below? The tree is about 12' to 14' high

2. Should this type of fig darken when ripe?

3. Will the absence of Fig Wasps prevent fruit from maturing? (I don't know if the wasps are present, but I haven't seen any.)

Thank you for any help you can provide...
