It has been really hot here too and everything is blooming exceptionally early as well. Almost too much to keep up with.

Love your cottage! That's such a beautiful setting for a garden and your flowers are marvelous. My son, an archaeologist, often works in the countryside in PA and NY and tells me of the beauty of the area.

Oh your garden is just lovely. Those views are incredible. Do you live on some good PA farmland that has that great garden soil? Your garden looks very lush and happy. What a lot of work that must have been to re-vamp the garden and it really shows. The shed is just to adorable. What a great addition to the garden.

In the 4th picture down, what is the lavendar plant in the back of the photo that has such a nice fountain shape?

That is a cute little brown cottage. Looks like something out of Snow White. So cute! Can we see close-ups of it and the garden around it? That big old tree dwarfs it even more.

I love Smoke trees, too. Don't have one...yet. It's on my list. They had them at Lowe's last year.

Love your breathtaking vista. Love those purple mountains off in the distance. Take away the mountains, and it looks like the land around here. (No! Don't take away the mountains!) What a beautiful place.

THANK YOU everyone for your very nice comments. This is the first I was able to check back, and was I ever surprised.

We are located 40 miles north and a little west of Harrisburg in a rural community. We are surrounded by farmland which they no longer prepare the 'old fashioned way'. It is now done by the no till method, and until the crop is somewhat mature the fields look ugly to me. I am of the generation of laying in bed, late at night, listening to the John Deere tractors putt, putt.

I will post some close photos of the little house/potting shed, and some garden areas.

The fourth photo background plant is a 'Karley Rose' grass. It is a favorite. When the dew is on it in the morning, and the sun comes up, it looks like it is wearing diamonds, as does the Smoke Tree.

A lot of the daylilies found a good home, but over several years the DL bed became taken over with thistles. I contacted the county extension agent and he said in the DL bed they would be practically impossible to eradicate since they are a perennial. The daylilies were planted on a grid of 24" with not much room to work and it became such a chore I gave up on them. I am glad to say the thistles are almost non-existent, but being surrounded by fields they will always make their presence known, (along with a zazillion dandelion), but controllable. The agent though I might have gotten them originally from mushroom mulch.

I will try and post more photos tomorrow evening.

My DH and I are now making a wind chime with 8 chimes. I found the directions on the length of each chime and I marked the Conduit accordingly. My DH did the manual labor, but I would have tackled it if he had not taken pity on me. It is almost ready for it's unveiling. It sounds great with 3/4" tubing and the longest is 24" and a fraction long.

Oh it's so beautiful! It reminds me of my Grandma's house in Southern Ohio...the rolling hills/mountains and the vistas. Just gorgeous! Keep up the good work!!!

Did the county agent tell you how to get rid of the thistles for good>? I bet I could go out every single morning and dig up at least a dozen. It is so frustrating!

He recommended combining Roundup and Ortho Weed-B-gon (spell?), but said that since they are a perennial, it would probably be impossible to get rid of them completely. Also, birds eat their seeds and deposit them as they fly by. My daylilies were mature and almost touched each other so it was a real chore in such a big bed. I even dabbed the little creeps with a foam paint brush. A dozen I can handle, but I had hundreds which were multiplying each day. The agent said the root needs to be killed. If it is not it will try that much harder to survive and send up side shoots to compensate.

This year is so much better in the garden.

Beautiful garden and cottage. I love that it is under a tree. And all those lilies! Looks like a wonderful place for grown-up or child to visit.

I live on a farm in Ohio about 60 miles south of Lake Erie; I call us "flatlanders", so our vistas are different than yours. The ancient Great Black Swamp ended just a few miles to the northwest of here.

A couple questions...I have hollyhock and it's a continual battle keeping it from invading everywhere. What do you do?
The other is a theory of mine...that fighting weeds in the country is more difficult than in the city. What are some tricks that work for you? I sympathize with the thistle problem, as I have dealt with them for 30 years.
