I've lost my mind, and a basil

I worked outside all day today and wanted something quick and easy for dinner. I decide to make a pizza - Marguerite style - tomatoes, basil, mozzarella. I went to the store for the crust and tomatoes. Got home, went to where I know I had basil growing. Ooops, I moved it last week. I still haven't found it. I did get enough basil from my tomato patch for a pizza, but I have no clue where I put that plant when I redid that bed.

What have you lost recently? Did you ever find it?

For me,it's not what I lost...It's "what is that growing, I know I planted something there last year?" I still have a few things coming up that I absolutely no idea what they are??? I'm ashamed to say I don't even know what color of flower they will be! Glad I like surprises :)
I'm sure the pizza was wonderful, though. Hopefully you will find your basil before your next one!

I totally forgot basil when I did my little herb container garden, but am going to get some this week and find a place to wedge it in. Thanks for the reminder!

I still have half a bag of last summer's cherry tomatoes in the freezer - they're great sliced and cooked on pizza (not great uncooked) and fresh basil will make it totally complete.

My most recent Vintage order is being shipped today and I am going to do yet another......One thing that encouraged me is that a friend and I went to the wonderful Naconiche Gardens in a town near me.....they have the most marvelous display gardens and every unusual plant you could imagine. It was a paradise - the people were knowledgable, friendly - and the display gardens you could walk around in and drool over for hours. Well......we drove up and the signs were taken down, the nursery closed, the stock sold and the beautiful display gardens neglected. I wanted to cry. I went to another local nursery that I like and found out they closed 2 months ago [2 hurricanes and a couple of horse shows kept me from going]. Everything went for half price. Another nursery closed in the same town. Vintage Gardens is a pearl without price. I cant imagine what rose lovers would do without this nursery. I am spending my rose money with them, building a garden just for Vintage bands. I am so happy to hear others are buying from them, hopefully it will be enough to keep them open. Who knows what will happen to the economy, but I dont know of another nursery that offers what Vintage does. Thanks to all who have stepped up to the plate and ordered. Judith

Why not give them a try? Conventional methods say to start them in early spring, when the soil has thoroughly thawed. So what if it's late spring? You might get something from them before the real heat hits. I think I'll try some too. PV

Hi PG! I don't feel so bad now. I just paid $35 & $20 for two carnosas, both were in 15 in hanging buckets, the larger was over 4 ft long I incorporated them both into the same pot with a rebar trellis it turned out really nice looking. He was asking $50 for the smaller and $65 for the larger. I told him the larger was worth easilly $100. Anyone want some carnosa cuttings off of a really old plant? I had to take quite a bit off to get them on the trellis and in the pot I wanted them in. Pictures coming soon :) With those deals I felt like I got took when I payed $20 for a hindu rope with one branch 3 ft long and two about 8 inches, and $10 for a 6 in pot of KP. I choked down $10 each for a rooted foot long stem of Rhipsalis edwaldiana and about a 4 in rooted stem of variegated hindu rope. I thought $95 was a good price for all.

hi chocolatebunny... i've been thinking of you, too! i wouldn't give up just yet. your sq footage is 8 ft, but what are the dimensions of your island? would a vanity size fit that? i am sure SOMEONE can fabricate a vanity equivalent for you, even from a remnant. i found my fabricator totally by accident. i was googling something about cambria, and i found a forum he was posting on. he doesn't even list zodiaq on his website; i emailed and asked. so you never know. btw... the Dupont website "dealer locator" was a waste of time! the best/nearest fabricator listed doesn't even sell zodiaq, only corian. he's talked to them, but DuPont doesn't bother to fix their listing. so you'll have to keep hunting. quartz (composite) is expensive, but i found nothing equivalent i wanted. so i feel very fortunate this worked out. but you never really know until the stuff is actually installed... then you can breathe! i really wish you good luck. keep us posted. :)

Haha, your post is funny token! I haven't lost a plant, but like mbhoney, I have a couple plants and I have no idea what the he!! they are. It frustrates me because I should have marked them or put them on the map I make of my beds, but I did neither and now I feel like an idiot for not knowing what I'm growing when I'm the one who planted them last year. I also have at two things growing which are either something I planted or they're weeds. I'm waiting for them to get a little larger hoping I'll be able to tell which they are, then. I hope at that time if they're weeds, they haven't dropped seeds.

Too funny.

I can just imagine this as the coming scenario:

You're out there with a flashlight searching for your Basil. The neighbors see you and come over to find out what you are looking for. "I can't find my Basil", you tell them. So they decide to help you search, even the grumpy old lady, thinking Basil is a pet. Pretty soon the entire neighborhood is out there calling and searching for poor little Basil. Snipe hunt! :)

What have I lost lately? Well I've lost control that's for certain and dignity is a close second.
Started out that I was gonna be the one calling the shots planting the plants. That's all gone out the window. Yesterday I was digging out lemon balm starts from my gravel driveway, scoot over a couple feet and I'm digging up sweet williams. Am I going to toss them? Noooo. Anything that determined to live is going to find a spot in my garden.
Dignity and control... I had them just a minute ago.

Tom, that is too funny! You are too young for that to be happening..........now me; that's a different story. I have planted basil seeds here and there. I will have to wait for them to come up to remember where! I think it was by the tomatoes?

Glad you found enough for the pizza.

bluesunflower, I know what you mean by keeping a determined plant. I have an oenothera growing out of a crack in the "paved" drive. It is small, but blooming. Looks good except it is almost white instead of pink. Amazing.

bluesunflower: Yes! I know what you mean. Other than weeds, I just can't bring myself to destroy plants that are green & growing. I used to think it was because I was new to gardening, but I've been at it for years now and still feel compelled to find a spot for every seedling that pops up. Even thinning them out when I've sown the seed is hard. It must be genetic.

I'm glad to find that I am not alone in my soft heart for tenacious plants. I keep reading about people who rip plants right out without a second thought and I just cringe. I thought I was just new and would toughen up. Now it looks like I might just have to start some new beds. ;-)

I have been pining for a long-haired black cat for years, one as pretty and regal looking as yours.
