About ten years ago, I bought a Larix "Little Bogie" from a great specialty nursery near me (Roslyn Nursery) that shut down a couple of years. Within the first two or three years after purchase, it suddenly dawned on me that the graft had died since this miniature really started putting on height. I transplanted it to a new location and it has done great. (Must be some 20 feet high at this point). I have never been able to figure out which Larix was used as rootstock. I have looked at descriptions of the different species but have not been able to pinpoint it down. Is one particular Larix used for grafting? Is there some obvious botanical way to differentiate among the species? Thanks!
