I am so lucky to have so many rebloom scapes this time. So far, 61 cultivars have put up rebloom scapes, along with four seedlings. Many of these have never rebloomed before. The most I've ever had rebloom in past years is 45 the year we had the May flood with 13 inches of rain in a three-day period. What caused so much rebloom this time? I think it's due to my watering several beds daily since the beginning of May. Dragging that hose around is hard, but it pays off in more flowers! Here are some that are reblooming from today and yesterday.

Beautiful! I would be doen to a half dozen without rebloom. We got good good rains, and I am now down to watering for the first time this year.

I grow many of the older Austins. In fact, I find myself to have an affinity with, if not a prefernce for some of the earlier English roses. My rose garden is just starting to bloom in the past two days. Many of the earliest blooming roses are the older English roses. The reds seem to be all opening, including; The Squire, Prospero, Wenlock, William Shakespear (Original) and William Shakespear 2000. Lisa: Perhaps. I'm wondering whether the entire lot of plants may have derived from mixed WC seed...if so, this would explain the variation. The bad rep that b-m has may derived from it having been grown thus far in the 'States from a formerly small sample that may or may not be maladapted. This occurs quite frequently in other plant groups where an initially limited genetic offering has led people to conclude that X species is painfully slow/hard-to-grow/impossible/ugly, ad. nauseum. If you have the Venzuelan Brom society's growers guide, there are several so-so pics of b-m in cultivation, as well as albos, variegated navioides, etc. One of the pics in that publication bears a strong resemblance to your plant, altho' def. not as concolorously red. At the same time, I distinctly remember seeing a photo of a putative b-m that was awarded by a U.S. society somewhere on the web that was even redder overall than yours. I think that we are all used to seeing the same (hard to grow?) powdery-gray form with the vivid red heart that we balk at accepting any other ecotypes as being the same critter. Maryl - I've only had two blooms on Lake Tahoe Autumn so far. I love the bloom, but I have no idea about plant habits here yet. The first day it bloomed the weather was cool. Today it was a humid 91 degrees, and the color held pretty well. It did fade a bit, but the bloom, which has thick substance, was still colorful and pretty at 7 p.m. I think it will do even better keeping it's color when it's out of a pot and in the ground. I will say the bloom held up better than the other new Trimmer late I got this spring, Wild Apple Autumn. Debra

Maryl, I've only had two blooms on GREEN ILLUSION so far, so it's too early for me to fully compare the two. GREEN ILLUSION does have a larger, spikier edge. GREEN MYSTIQUE has a lacy, ruffled formal-looking edge. I really love both. If you could only get one, it would depend on which kind of edge you prefer. Debra, what is the difference between "instant rebloom scapes" and "regular rebloom scapes," please.

Pat - With instant rebloom, a second scape comes out of the fan a short time after the initial scape. (Some people call this "double scaping." This instant rebloom scape starts blooming while the first scape is finishing its flowers. So you have instant rebloom without waiting. A regular rebloom scape does not emerge from the fan until the first scape is on the downside of blooming or after it has stopped blooming. With regular rebloom, there is a waiting period - sometimes weeks, sometimes months - before the rebloom scape starts flowering.

Ethel Buccola and Awesome Applique are my favorites. You have a lot of rebloom, I haven't even counted mine. I've been picking blackberries. Ver hard work and it takes a lot of time from my flowers...Ellie

Ellie and Julia - Ethel is a winner in my book too!

Pat - Stealth Bomber is an excellent daylily in every way. Awesome Applique doesn't always look that good. Sometimes the petal color is muddy.

Rita - Did you ever get Edge of Your Seat? I know you were interested in it at one point.

wow, that DIXIE BOY is gorgeous.. They are all very pretty, but, that one looks alot like EL DESPERADO THAT i JUST LOVE,

Thanks Jean! Dixie Boy is a small flower - about 3.5 inches - and must rounder than El Desperado.

GORGEOUS!!! They look just as good on rebloom. All that rebloom is fantastic. I don't have a long enough growing season for that but I can enjoy yours all over again. My regular season is just starting up. Each of these is lovely in it's own way making it hard to pick a frontrunner. But that first one really caught my eye!
