Comments (8)How about adding something about the importance of sending the size bubble envelope requested, not smaller and if possible not larger. The bubble envelope size that is requested is for a reason. The seeds fit in that envelope size and for the postage requested and usually will go for first class large envelope rate. I know that when I send the info for a BEAP I have used my digital postal scale, weighed the bubble envelope, the weight of the seeds, added to pieces of 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper to the scale and have everything all totaled to go for the first class weight. The reason I've added to pieces of paper to the weighing is one sheet covers the weight of the paper requested with the list of seeds on it, and the other one covers the weight of packing tape and label. When someone sends a smaller envelope than requested, the seeds can't fit for the amount of postage sent and the same thing can happen if a larger envelope is sent. Just in the huge BEAP post I made a few weeks ago, I've gotten quite a few bubblies that where either too small or too large and there wasn't enough postage to send all the seeds. Most times, a larger envelope will be OK, but not always. Another thing is the simple fact that it isn't necessary to send the bubble envelope inside another one to get the BEAP seeds. I've lost count with how many bubblies have come to inside a second envelope, even when I have given the following instruction.s "just address the bubble envelope to me, put everything inside that I requested, tape it closed and mail it to me. There is no need to but the bubble envelope inside another one to send it to me." OH, Just thought of another one. Figure out how to explain don't use the the tape seal on the bubble envelope to seal up the bubblie. Most times, they stick so well, that you can't get the envelope open and have to cut the bubblie to open it. If you just take it closed with package tape, it's much easier to open the bubble without cutting it to do so. I think it's scotch that is making bubble envelopes now with a shiny material now and if you seal that closed with their seal on it, there is no way on earth that you can get it open without cutting the bubble. Comments (46)You can buy them established, my local nursery has them and does a great job. It does take ages to do it yourself I have to warn you, like 5 years before they produce fruit. I am nuts and wanted to do them from a whip because I wanted the whole tree the same fruit. All the places I found with Espalier trees had them with a different variety for each branch! I am doing 2 apple varieties and a pear. I bought mine on https://www.starkbros.com/ but you can also get any old fruit tree and just start with the first two branches. I know costco has fruit trees about now. Starting with at least the first row of branches knocks a year off your time frame to that can be helpful! Comments (29)THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who has replied so far, This has been very helpful. I love that so many of you took he time to reply, and I also am excited to hear that I already have a few of the varieties that are mentioned here- some multiple times (Golden Celebration, Lady Emma, Darcy Bussell, Jubilee Celebration) they are still so young I haven't been able to tell anything about their blooming habits for sure yet. AnnTn, I live in a suburban area very close to an urban downtown area, so my yard is pretty small, I don't have room for many giant species of rose (although I'm constantly trying to make more room) my soil is heavy, sticky clay, but my flower beds have been amended so many times, I don't know how much of that is still in there, and if my hydrangeas are any indication it is very alkaline. Most of my available space at the moment is mostly sun with some dappled shade, but as soon as the sidewalk that is In planning stages gets built, I will build my fence, and then I will have more full sun space available, but I'm waiting until the sidewalk and fence are done to plant near the very front of my yard (some of the sunniest territory) I don't want the roses to get messed with during the construction process, I would hate to get into an altercation with a construction worker ;)...See MorePlease Show Your "Most" Beautiful Rose (s)
Comments (269)Carol, Eglantyne is sooo ruffly and a great bloomer! Eglanryne will probably bloom all summer for you same as me because we dont get as hot as Diane’s summers. Diane’s Evelyn is a beauty! Can’t wait to see Evelyn in my garden! You will love them both!!!. i am sure you can find some Austin supplier, hopefully from Phoenix P. Rain water does do well on roses! They love that soft ”no chenicals,” water. Maybe you need a water softener on your hose? Is your water usually ”hard?” D Austins are supposed to bloom more than most rosess-they are shrub roses w/ abundant blooms. I have DAs: PAoK, Anne Bolyne, Desdemona, Harlow Carr, Munstead W., Eglantyne, Abe, Princess Anne, Lich. Angel, B Cadfael, Mary Rose, Heritage, Strawberry Hill, James Galway, & Mayflower and they all bloom constantly. Mary Rose blooms the most, but a few are too new to show their stuff much, yet. I ordered Evelyn, Emily Bronte, Eutacia Vye, Roald Dahl, Silas Marner, Queen of Sweden-we will see how they perform. Carol, Could Straw ship Austin roses to you? I suppose you both wouod deal with shipping fliwers border certification....See Moremelissa_thefarm
